To celebrate this holiday season, developer Rocksteady Studios is allowing all players to access two free Batman: Arkham Knight skins in a brand-new update. Fans have long been asking Rocksteady and WBIE to release skins from the game that were previously exclusive based on certain platforms or parameters. Though it took more than five years, at least there's some momentum in this regard.

Both of the skins available in the new update were previously accessible to those who obtained them via WBPlay. One necessitated that players simply make a WBPlay account to gain access to it. Unlocking the other costume required players to create an account and then make a post on the WBPlay forums. Evidently, it was a way to get more people involved in the platform. Not everyone took the bait, though.

Rocksteady Studios announced the details of Batman: Arkham Knight's newest free update in a recent post on Twitter. Apparently, these skins are a way to celebrate the current holiday season, though neither of the two costumes is even remotely festive. One of the skins in question is Anime Batman (not to be confused with the Batman Ninja anime) as he appeared in 2008's Batman: Gotham Knight animated film. The other is the Zur-En-Arrh suit, inspired by the Silver Age's Batman of Zur-En-Arrh--a scientist from the planet of the same name who assumes the role of their world's caped crusader.

The release of these two previously obscure skins is a win for fans who wish to return to Rocksteady's last mainline Batman Arkham adventure. However, it took five years is a cause for concern, particularly for those looking forward to other exclusive costumes becoming more readily available. For example, Batman: Arkham Knight's Adam West skin remains exclusive to PlayStation 4 players. And just this year, the PS4 alone received access to yet another DLC costume.

Soon such releases are likely to cease, with two new DC-centric games in development. At present, Rocksteady is hard at work on its newest project, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Since it won't launch until sometime in 2022, details about the title are scarce for the time being. However, the studio has made it clear that this particular tale will take place in the Arkhamverse. Meanwhile, the crew at WB Games Montréal has their hands full with Gotham Knights, a cross-gen title starring the Bat-family that's set to launch in 2021. Unlike Rocksteady's Suicide Squad game, however, Gotham Knights will not serve as a follow-up to the Arkham series.
