Rocksteady Studios has announced that Batman is getting another DLC skin in Batman: Arkham Knight for PS4 users. Arkham Knight was released five years ago, in June of 2015, as the fourth installment of the Arkham series. Two of its predecessors, Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, received game of the year awards, with the latest installment following suit. Arkham Knight reunites the original Arkham (and Batman: The Animated Series) cast with Mark Hamill returning as the clown prince of crime, the Joker, and Kevin Conroy as the caped crusader himself, Batman. Players hadn't seen the duo since the end of Arkham City due to the developer shift taken place for Arkham Origins.

Arkham Knight once again followed Batman, through his pursuit of the mysterious Arkham Knight who seemed to know him a little too well. Along the way Batman encountered many of the familiar foes players saw in the previous games and comics, with all new gadgets to face them. Players also finally got to drive the Batmobile and race around Gotham City, fighting enemy tanks to save the day. The Arkham series has pleased long time Batman fans from the very start, and one of those key factors were the different skins players could unlock of Batman throughout the ages and universes.

According to the Rocksteady Studios twitter account, developers have decided to release another skin for the caped crusader available on January 28th in the PlayStation Store. The skin is only for players on PS4 and is actually not a totally new skin. Batman is getting an Earth 2 Dark Knight skin that had been released in 2015 for an exclusive event at E3 and could be unlocked using codes on a limited Mountain Dew flavor. Many fans had been disappointed at the exclusivity of the skin, thus encouraging Rocksteady to promise a re-release.

Arkham Knight has been releasing new DLC since its initial launch and recently was available in the Epic Games Store for free in a bundle with the other Rocksteady Arkham games. This most likely brought new attention to the games for PC players that it had not received since 2015. The game was also released as part of a bundle with the rest of the games in 2018 called Batman: Arkham Collection.

Many fans have been anticipating a statement from Rocksteady announcing a new game to follow up Arkham Knight, so the news of another DLC skin is more than a little disappointing, not to mention the company had promised players they would release this skin last year. Rumors have spread that Warner Bros Montreal is developing the next installment of the Arkham series titled Batman: Arkham Legacy, and while it is unlikely there will be any involvement by Rocksteady, the timing of this DLC announcement has left a strange reaction among players.
