Spoilers for Detective Comics #1063 by Marvel Comics

DC Comics is revealing the secret origin of Arkham Asylum as the iconic Batman location's history gets a major change that changes its lore forever. In Detective Comics #1063, it's revealed that the land the Elizabeth Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane was built on land originally owned by a man named Anatol Orgham - who is connected to a mysterious present-day villain. He eventually passed the land to his kin, leading to it being owned by Loricius Orgham, who would eventually change his last name... to Arkham.

Arkham Asylum is one of the most notable landmarks in Gotham City, as it been the home of some of the most dangerous villains in the entire DC Universe. Originally founded by Amadeus Arkham and named after his mother Elizabeth, Amadeus would be admitted into the hospital he helped create after one of his patients murdered his family - as well as realizing he was responsible for his mother's death. Arkham Asylum has since held the likes of the Joker, Bane, Two-Face, and many more villains, as Batman has worked diligently to put his foes inside the prison/psychiatric hospital.

In Detective Comics #1063 by Ram V, Rafael Albuquerque, Dave Stewart, and Ariana Maher from DC Comics, readers are introduced to a mysterious new Batman villain named Shavhod, who is taking a Yacht to Gotham City. Shavhod reveals the secret origins of Arkham Asylum as she claims her family used to own the land where Arkham was built, as it was passed through the Orgham family. Originally owned by Anatol Orgham in 1692, the deed's inheritor, Loricius Orgham, changed his name in the mid '1850s to Arkham in order to protect his trading activities. In the 1920s, his descendant, Amadeus Arkham, would build Arkham Asylum.

So, why is Shavhod making her claim to Arkham Asylum now? Well, following the Batman arc that saw the destruction of Arkham Asylum, the Orgham family doesn't want their name, even the bastardized Arkham moniker, to be forgotten. So, as a result, they're arriving in Gotham to make a claim for the land.

With the Orgham's Arkham Asylum origin being revealed and the family returning to Gotham City, it seems a conflict about the true ownership of the recently destroyed land and property is about to break out. Will the mysterious villains be able to claim Arkham Aslyum for their own? How will Batman respond to the Orgham family staking their ownership and the major change to DC lore?
