Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is increasing the run of the Batman: The Animated Series Blu-ray box set, so eager fans won’t miss out when the product is released on October 30. One of the best animated superhero series of all time, Batman: The Animated Series is getting the royal treatment with the deluxe limited edition set that includes the full series run, remastered on 10 Blu-ray discs. Needless to say, fan response was greater than Warner Bros. had expected (even at a $112.99 price point), but the studio is taking the necessary steps to meet demand and make sure box sets don’t end up on eBay for five times the retail price.

The series was a Saturday morning and after school staple for kids growing up in the early- to mid- ‘90s (Jonah Hill probably remembers), as it offered an incredibly stylistic and grounded take on the Caped Crusader that blended elements of Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman film with a gorgeous art deco design aesthetic and voice talent that has set the standard for DC animation since. The series' iteration of the titular hero and his rogues' gallery proved so popular that actors like Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill are still lending their voices to the likes of Batman and the Joker in everything from animated movies to video games featuring the characters.

The influence of creators Bruce Timm and Paul Dini is still being felt today, not only because of their smart noir take on DC’s biggest star, but also because the series introduced Harley Quinn to the DC Universe. That alone should necessitate a full remastering of the series. If you’re still on the fence as to whether or not it’s worth the large price tag, check out a few remastered stills below, and see everything included in the Deluxe Limited Edition.

Mad Love

Perchance to Dream

"The impressive Batman: The Complete Animated Series Deluxe Limited Edition package features approximately 2,700 minutes of entertainment spread over 10 Blu-ray discs, plus the two bonus discs – not counting 11 specially-selected episodes with audio commentaries by cast and crew. In addition, Batman: The Complete Animated Series Deluxe Limited Edition includes an exclusive ensemble of collectibles highlighted by three Funko mini-figurines (Batman, Joker, Harley Quinn) and seven beautifully-designed lenticular art cards. The entire box set is housed in a stunning layflat-book with a dazzling slipcase. And a digital copy of all 109 episodes is included in the box set.”

Still, one has to wonder if an extra 70,000 units will be enough to sate every fan. It will be interesting to see whether or not Warner Bros. Home Entertainment winds up producing even more units going into the holiday season, or if they’ll let demand make this the gift everyone wants but can't seem to find.
