Spoilers ahead for Batman: The Adventures Continue: Season Two # 3!

The Birds of Prey have been a formidable force in the DC Universe for almost 25 years, and now they are making the transition to the DC Animated Universe via comic book. In Batman: The Adventures Continue: Season Two #3, on sale now in print and digital, Batgirl and the Huntress have a reluctant team-up, but it lays the foundation for the Birds of Prey in the DCAU.

As the name implies, Batman: The Adventures Continue is the sequel to the seminal Batman: The Animated Series. Using the same style and continuity, the book has tied up loose ends from the show and introduced new storylines while also incorporating elements from the mainstream DC Universe, such as the Court of Owls. Now, in issue three of the series' second season, there's the perfect opportunity to also introduce the Birds of Prey. The issue is written by Alan Burnett and Paul Dini, with art by Rick Burchett, colors by Monica Kubina and letters by Josh Reed.

The issue opens with Batman and Batgirl on the trail of Jimmy “The Jazzman” Peake, an extortionist, though readers learn the Huntress is also on his trail. Batgirl tracks Jimmy to a tattoo parlor and quickly subdues him, intending to bring him into custody. However, the Huntress intervenes, trying to shoot him with her bow, but it misses. It's revealed that Batgirl has never met the Huntress and that Batman is not a fan of hers. Batgirl tries to get Jazzman away from the Huntress, but she is relentless. When Jazzman turns on Batgirl, calling in his goons, Batgirl and Huntress must team up to stop the villain. The Huntress is set on killing him, but Batgirl talks her down, and after the dust settles, the Huntress agrees to let him be taken to jail.

Huntress smirking and telling Batgirl to "enjoy" beating up Jazzman

In the comics, Batgirl (when she was going by Oracle), Huntress, and Black Canary make up the Birds of Prey, and in this issue, two-thirds of the team are now in place. The Huntress and Batgirl now have common ground, one that may lead to the Birds of Prey forming in this universe. However, the Huntress uses extreme methods, too extreme for Batgirl and even Batman, and at the end of the issue, she breaks into the prison and seemingly kills Jazzman, despite her earlier agreement with Batgirl. This potentially could jeopardize the team before it ever gets off the ground.

The Birds of Prey are one of the most formidable teams in the DC Universe, and now the foundation for them has been laid in the DC Animated Universe.
