Warning: contains major spoilers for The Batman/Scooby-Doo! Mysteries #3!

Cruella de Vil is known for her dog-napping schemes and now Two-Face is hatching a canine-centric scheme of his own against Batman's dog: Ace the BathoundThe Batman/Scooby-Doo Mysteries #3 features Two-Face carrying out a duality-based crime - as is typical of the villain. He's trying to steal Batman's dog in classic Cruella fashion, for the strangest reason.

Two-Face is one of Batman's classic villains and his gimmick usually revolves around things that have a duality to them. Since 1942, Harvey Dent has been following the same pattern, but this time his reasoning isn't nearly as obvious as it usually is. Cruella de Vil's motive for stealing Dalmatian puppies is transparent - she wants their coats because she's a fashionista who loves furs. So what does Two-Face want with Batman's dog?

Created by Ivan Cohen, Dario Brizuela, Franco Riesco, and Saida Temofonte, "Double Dog Dare" places Ace the Bathound and Scooby-Doo at the Gotham City Dog Show. They are guest judges for the competition, but in typical Gotham fashion, a villain has to crash the party. A crime wave has spread since the arrival of guests and Batman and Mystery Inc. trail two strange new villains, who turn out to be twin henchmen for Two-Face. The villain's ploy to kidnap Ace makes no sense for the villain who deals in doubles, until Batman reveals a little-known fact about his canine companion's specific breed: they have a double coat.

Ace the bathound in day light.

In older comics, Two-Face's crimes always had a double aspect to them. He stole doubloons with two faces on them, planned crimes at 2 AM or 2 PM, and other goofy things that involved the number two or pairs of things. This gimmick has largely disappeared in the modern comic era, but every now and again it makes a comeback - like in this issue. Two-Face hires twin henchmen to carry out schemes, while he wears a double-breasted suit, and buys two bags of popcorn he doesn't even eat once he spots Batman on his trail. However, his motive here is so bizarre that even the world's greatest detective has trouble figuring it out - until he speaks with another dog owner as Bruce Wayne. His memory is jogged about German shepherds having a "double coat". There is a secondary layer of dense fur underneath the top fluffy fur.

This comic makes Two-Face almost exactly like Cruella since he is predominantly interested in Ace's fur coat. With the return of the classic rogue's gimmick, it seems like he and Cruella would actually make a rather intriguing pair of villains. While Harvey isn't intensely into fashion, he has been known to wear some dual-colored suits that are noteworthy. Cruella's hair and wardrobe match this element and he'd likely take notice of her based on that visual duality alone. They both have opposing hairstyles, wardrobe choices, and if Disney's villainess ever took an interest in German Shepherds over Dalmatians, she and Two-Face would be the perfect schemers to steal them. Additionally, they have both been seen hiring henchmen who are brothers, who assist in bumbling their plans. They'd certainly have similar frustrations and Gotham would be the perfect city for them to operate in, though Harvey definitely belongs with Gilda Dent. Batman's dog, Ace the Bathound was able to catch Two-Face's interest in a way that is very similar to Cruella de Vil, making them reflective of each other in a way that could only exist in a comic.
