Warning! Spoilers for Batman '89 #1 by DC Comics below.
Michael Keaton's Batman is back in action in a brand new preview for the upcoming Batman '89 series from DC Comics. In a new look at the adaptation of Tim Burton's iconic take on the Dark Knight, Gotham City is in the midst of chaos due to the battles between the Joker and Batman. Harvey Dent will target Batman and try to get Bruce Wayne's help to take down the hero.
Director Tim Burton's vision for Batman is being brought back to the comics, as Sam Hamm and Joe Quinones are expanding the world in an all-new series called Batman '89. The comic will expand on loose threads from Batman Returns, including introducing Marlon Wayans version of Robin, as well as featuring Prince's version of the Joker. The series will star Keaton's Batman, Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman, and Billy Dee Williams' Two-Face - and feature appearances and cameos from other popular characters from across Burton's two chapters of Batman.
This week, DC Comics provided a first look at Batman '89 #1, which features Batman going up against some of the Joker's gang. Like in the Tim Burton films, Batman doesn't seem too concerned about ensuring the villains make it out alive.

Billy Dee-Williams' Two-Face stars in this variant from Jerry Ordway.
Quinones' 1:25 variant for issue #1 features Batman, Catwoman, Two-Face, and Robin.
The Batman '89 team variant from Taurin Clarke and Ken Taylor imagines the new installment as a movie poster, with a black and white Keaton also available. There will also be exclusive team variants (depending on locations) from Mico Suayan, Carla Cohen, and Warren Louw.
In Quinones' cover Batman '89 #2, a surprised Two-Face comes face-to-face with Batman.
In Mitch Gerads' variant cover for issue 2, Batman hangs upside down and is surrounded by bats.
Quinones' cover for Batman '89 #3 features Batman's cowl, logo, and other items being taken in for evidence by the Gotham PD.
Lastly, Lee Weekes variant cover for the same issue features a brooding Batman overlooking Gotham City.
For both fans of the Tim Burton films starring Keaton, as well as the character in the comics, Batman '89 looks like it's going to be a lot of fun. Burton's world is ripe for more exploration and the attention to detail by Hamm and Quinones should give readers home the series is going to be special. Michael Keaton's Batman returns when Batman '89 #1 is released on August 10. Issue two arrives in comic book shops on September 14, while the third issue is scheduled for an October 12 release.
