Spoilers for Batman #130 by DC Comics

While Batman may not have superpowers like most of his fellow Justice League heroes, The Dark Knight proved he doesn't need them to defy death in the most shocking way. In Batman #130 by DC Comics, Batman plunges from space into the Earth's atmosphere, freefalling quickly to the ground. While the situation would kill almost any non-powered hero, somehow, Batman survives in one of the most absurd yet unforgettable moments in his comic book history.

Batman has elite smarts, skills, and strength that make him one of the most impressive heroes in the world without actual superpowers. Unlike Superman, The Flash, and Wonder Woman, who have otherworldly powers, Batman just needs his brain, body, and wealth to get on their level. Likewise, Bruce Wayne's martial art skills, technological prowess, detective work, and ability to plan and assess situations and opponents are second to none. However, Batman proved he doesn't need powers, as his latest DC Comics feat of survival is literally out of this world.

In Batman #130 by Chip Zdarsky, Jorge Jimenez, Tomeu Morey, and Clayton Cowles from DC Comics, Batman floats alone in space after fighting Failsafe in an explosive battle at the Justice League's Watchtower on the moon. With Failsafe making sure Batman had little recourse to save himself 240,000 miles away from Earth, The Dark Knight thinks on the fly, using his grappling gun to propel him into a broken ship's oxygen supply, where he uses it to stay alive. Batman uses debris from the ship's booster to shoot himself toward Earth from space. He decelerates but passes out as he hits the planet's atmosphere, but his Batsuit protects him from being engulfed by flames. Batman extends his cape and somehow lands in the snow, where Superman and Tim Drake have taken refuge at the Fortress of Solitude.

Batman Doesn't Need Powers To Accomplish The Amazing

Batman-130-10

Does Batman falling from hundreds of thousands of miles from space and surviving by using nothing but his brain, utility belt tools, oxygen, and a piece of debris with a booster make logical sense? Not really. But it doesn't need to. The story occurs in a superhero world where much more insane things have happened. Batman didn't panic and used his smarts to stick to the seemingly impossible landing. It's best not to think too hard about how Batman survived the fall from space without powers, as the spectacle and the moment's sheer awesomeness more than makeup for its inconsistencies.

In the end, Batman didn't need powers to accomplish one of the greatest superhero landings of all time. Despite being put in an absurd situation where his death was seemingly assured, he survived in space (with a mask) and the ensuing freefall to Earth without any apparent injuries. His daring fall proves, once again, that Batman's strength and smarts are his real powers. Batman #130 by DC Comics is in comic book stores now.
