New Batgirl movie set photos tease the inclusion of an iconic Year One location in the story for the upcoming DC Extended Universe film. In the Heights breakout star Leslie Grace is leading the cast of the film alongside returning DCEU stars J.K. Simmons as Gotham City Police Commissioner Jim Gordon and Michael Keaton following his return from the Tim Burton universe in The Flash later this year. Batgirl will also mark the DCEU debuts of Brendan Fraser as the iconic pyromaniac Firefly and Jacob Scipio, Rebecca Front, Corey Johnson and Ethan Kai in undisclosed roles.

Development on Batgirl has been rocky, having first kicked off in 2017 with Joss Whedon set to write, direct and produce, though he would later depart due to a multitude of factors including the underperformance of Justice League, his reported inability to come up with a story and Warner Bros.' desire to have a female filmmaker at the helm. Though the studio would ultimately bring in Bad Boys for Life duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah to direct the film, they would tap Christina Hodson to pen the script after being impressed with her work on Birds of Prey and having already hired her for the latest version of The Flash. Grace would officially be cast as Batgirl in mid-2021 with production finally kicking off in Glasgow this past November.

With production moving quickly on the upcoming project, Twitter users MM2022 and Batgirl Film News have shared new Batgirl movie set photos. The images reveal a recreation of the Cherry Hill neighborhood of Gotham City, complete with the iconic Year One location of Infantino's Costumes For All Occasions, of which Grace's Barbara Gordon can be seen carrying a shopping bag from. Those familiar with the comics will recall Infantino's importance to the plot of Batgirl: Year One as it served as the stepping stone for Barbara to become the titular vigilante. Having had a fight with her father, Commissioner Gordon, she planned to wear a female Batman costume to a masquerade ball to spite him, only to find no suitable options at the shop and elect to make her own suit. While wearing the Batgirl costume at the party, she would ultimately find herself saving the day when it came under attack by the villain Killer Moth, allowing for just enough time for Bruce Wayne to change into his Batsuit and call Robin to assist.

With the new Batgirl movie set photos confirming the inclusion of Infantino's Costumes For All Occasions, named after the artist behind the character's creation Carmine Infantino, it seems likely Hodson and co. are taking a fairly direct approach to adapting Year One. Not only is Keaton's Batman already confirmed to be in the film, but previous set photos have shown a mural of him and an unknown Robin side-by-side, creating the possibility for the masquerade party origin story to come to life with Fraser's Firefly substituted for Killer Moth. Only time will tell when Batgirl arrives on HBO Max later this year.
