New photos from the set of Batgirl show Barbara Gordon bloodied and bruised. In the Heights breakout star Leslie Grace is set to make her DC Extended Universe debut as the titular heroine in the upcoming Batgirl movie from Birds of Prey and The Flash writer Christina Hodson and Bad Boys For Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. Doom Patrol star Brendan Fraser has been tapped to portray the film's villain, the sociopathic pyromaniac known as Firefly.

Along with The Flash, Batgirl will be one of a few DCEU films expected to take the franchise in a different direction post-Zack Snyder, with Hodson seemingly taking over as the architect. There will still be a few holdovers from past films, including J.K. Simmons who reprises his Justice League role as Barbara's father, Commissioner Gordon, and Michael Keaton, who will first return as Bruce Wayne/Batman for The Flash and then appear in Batgirl, presumably in a mentor role. Since beginning production in late November 2021, there have been plenty of peeks at the Batgirl set in Glasgow.

The latest look at the Batgirl set comes courtesy of John Devlin, who photographed Leslie Grace surrounded by the crew in between takes. The In the Heights star is smiling and appears to be in good spirits in one photo, while another shows Barbara Gordon's face bloodied and bruised. This is just the latest in a long line of looks at the Batgirl set, though perhaps some of the clearest photos that have been taken thus far. Prior set photos have revealed everything from Barbara's red hair to her Batsuit's goggles. But now, the DCEU movie has begun filming action scenes and it seems Barbara is a little worse for wear because of it. Hopefully, these bruises are merely occupational hazards and she'll live to fight another day. While Batgirl will likely adopt a lighter tone than Snyder's entries into the DCEU, these set photos indicate it might feature a little more graphic violence than previously assumed.

With these Batgirl set photos making waves online, it remains a mystery why Warner Bros. and DC decided to send the movie straight to HBO Max as a streaming exclusive. This is especially puzzling when another DC movie like Blue Beetle, a superhero without nearly as much name recognition as Batgirl, is being developed as a theatrical project. For now, Batgirl is due for a release on HBO Max sometime this year.
