A new video from the set of Batgirl has teased Brendan Fraser's character, Firefly, and his powers in the upcoming DCEU film. In The Heights' Leslie Grace will star as Barbara Gordon, otherwise known as Batgirl, in DC's upcoming project for HBO Max, after years of audiences calling for the beloved comic-book character to receive her own standalone project. Helmed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, Batgirl is currently in the middle of shooting, however, despite a number of exciting set images having made their way onto social media throughout its production, official teases for the film have been few and far between.
Gotham City's blue-suited protector, Barbara Gordon is the daughter of Commissioner Gordon, played by J.K. Simmons, who will reprise his role from Justice League. Simmons is just one of the exciting names to join Batgirl in her upcoming addition to the DCEU's ever-growing lineup of heroes, as Michael Keaton is also set to return as Batman, sending the internet into a spin with a recent Instagram picture that saw the actor tease his highly anticipated return to the role. While Keaton's Batman looks set to assist Barbara in her vigilante endeavors, another of Batgirl's big names, Fraser, will feature as the comic book villain Firefly, who is out to cause mayhem in Gotham City.
Now, an exciting new video from the set of Batgirl has teased Firefly's powers within the film. Currently shooting in the streets of Glasgow, Scotland, the clip was captured by @denishakilloh (shared via Batgirl Film News) and shows Firefly riding on top of a firetruck, carrying what appears to be two flame-throwers, shooting huge flames into the sky. It's likely that these shots were captured using a stunt double due to the nature of the scene, however, it offers an exciting glimpse at a character that has been kept largely under wraps up to this point. The set video comes after fans just recently got their very first up-close glimpse of Firefly and how Fraser's character will appear in the film, with the costume design appearing to have incorporated various elements from previous comic book iterations of the antagonist. In the comics, Firefly is a pyrotechnics expert with extensive knowledge of highly flammable weaponry. A previous set video offered an alternative glimpse at Firefly as he calmly strolled out of a burning building, so it's fair to say this character is set to cause considerable chaos within Gotham.
Lots of exciting details have emerged from the set of Batgirl thus far and with production set to continue in Glasgow, who knows what other fun teases will make their way on to social media next. Fraser's character looks to be an incredibly strong addition to this already seemingly packed project, and if this new set video is anything to go by, audiences could be for a rather explosive performance from The Mummy star. As for now, there isn't long to wait as Batgirl is expected to release at some point in 2022.
