Barbara Gordon's costume is seen in action for the first time in a brand new Batgirl set video. After her great performance in Jon M. Chu's In The Heights, Leslie Grace is bringing her acting chops to the DCEU as Batgirl. The film, written by Christina Hodson and directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, is set to debut on HBO Max this year, but without a specific release date yet. Nonetheless, production is in full swing after it started in Glasgow late last year, offering fans some information about what to expect from the project.

Batgirl will function as the origin story for DCEU's Barbara Gordon. Grace's version marks the first time the character will appear on screen again since 1997's Batman & Robin, which featured Alicia Silverstone's take on the character. In the comics, the character is a young officer in the Gotham City Police Department — something that the film will be adapting for Warner Bros.' franchise. J.K. Simmons is set to reprise his role as GCPD Commissioner Jim Gordon and Barbara's father. Meanwhile, after marking his return as Batman in Andy Muschietti's The Flash, Michael Keaton will follow it up by an appearance in Batgirl.

Specific plot details about Batgirl are still tightly under wraps, but Grace recently unveiled the first look at her superhero character in full costume through a promotional image. Now, thanks to a new set video shared on Twitter by Batgirl Film News Batgirl's costume is seen in action. It's difficult to say whether Grace or a stunt double was wearing the costume, but the clip was taken while preparing to film a stunt. Watch it below:

It's difficult to see the finer details of the suit considering the quality of the video, but it shows that it's mostly practical, perhaps with post-production CGI work for additional effects. The decision to debut Grace's first look as the titular character in Batgirl came at the perfect time as it offered fans a better look at her costume compared to seeing it first through a grainy set image or video — something that the DCEU has had to deal with before. Given this, the public can be more forgiving if the superhero suit doesn't look as good or flattering during filming, understanding that everything will ultimately be fixed with the use of VFX.

For Batgirl, Warner Bros. decided to go with a more comic book-accurate adaptation of the character's costume. However, some fans are still unsatisfied with the movie's upcoming rendition of the costume. El Arbi reminded fans, however, that it's better to wait for the movie itself before dismissing Grace's look as the superhero altogether.
