Batgirl actress Leslie Grace celebrates Batman Day with a sweet post honoring her introduction to the DC family. Despite Batgirl, aka Barbara Gordon, flourishing in comics and television, she has yet to receive her very own movie. Alicia Silverstone played a version of the character for Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin, but that's essentially been the only time she has appeared in a live-action movie. That looks to change with the upcoming Batgirl, a project that has been in development since 2017 but promises to finally be moving forward under the direction of Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.

A reported shortlist for the role of Barbara emerged in July, suggesting actresses like Zoey Deutch and Isabella Merced were in the running. Then, just days later, Grace nabbed the role. Grace is a Latin Grammy-nominated singer who recently made her film debut as Nina Rosario in Jon M. Chu's In the Heights. Her casting in Batgirl was met with much excitement from fans and those within the DCEU, with Grace receiving words of support from Jurnee Smollett and Margot Robbie.

This past Saturday, September 18, marked Batman Day for fans and creatives. Grace made sure not to miss the occasion, sharing some pictures of herself beside a small Batgirl statue. "happy #Batman day from #Batgirl," Grace wrote. She also shared a video of her nephews dressed as Batman, adding that they "understood the assignment lol." The entire post is adorable and heartfelt. Batman Day falls on the third Saturday of every September, and Grace wasn't the only one to celebrate it this year. Zack Snyder made sure to commemorate the day with a funny picture of himself in the famous cowl, while The Batman composer Michael Giacchino released a snippet of the movie's score. It's fitting that the DCEU's newest Bat Family member also decided to honor the day, though fans shouldn't expect Batman to actually turn up in her movie. Grace already confirmed Batgirl won't include Batman, meaning a potential meetup between the two might come further down the line.

Little is known about Batgirl at this stage, save for Grace's casting and the creative team. J.K. Simmons is reportedly in talks to return as Commissioner Gordon. Batgirl is being positioned as an HBO Max exclusive, and while it doesn't have a set production start date, El Arbi and Fallah are actively developing it now. Grace's excitement throughout the entire development process has been infectious, and it will be thrilling to actually see her in action as Barbara. Hopefully, Batgirl will begin filming sooner rather than later so audiences can get a better idea of what's in store.
