Leslie Grace, star of the upcoming DC movie Batgirl, would love the chance to crossover with Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn. A movie centered on fan favorite hero Barbara Gordon has been in the works for some time, with development stretching back to 2017. Joss Whedon was initially on board as writer-director, but he soon departed the project. Since then, Batgirl has gained Birds of Prey scribe Christina Hodson and Bad Boys for Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. As the movie had been announced so many years ago, many fans were, for a time, preoccupied with the question of who would be donning the Batsuit.

Back in July, an early shortlist for Batgirl's casting surfaced online, suggesting actresses like Isabela Merced and Haley Lu Richardson were in contention for the role. Not long after, In the Heights breakout Grace nabbed the role of Barbara, and she and the internet have been alight with excitement ever since. Grace recently teased the journey Barbara will go on in Batgirlexplaining that she will be working to prove herself to others.

Even before the cameras begin rolling, Grace has received the support of several DC stars, including Jurnee Smollett and Robbie. When it comes to the latter, Grace heard about Robbie's kind words regarding her casting and shared her reaction while talking to ET Online. She added that, if given the chance, she would love to have Batgirl come face to face with Harley Quinn. Grace said:

"I was freaking out! I'm such a fan. I can't even. She's one of the biggest, badasses in the superhero world. I haven't had a chance to meet her, but it would be awesome if at any point Batgirl comes through and Miss Harley Quinn drops by Gotham and have some business to handle, it might be cool!"

DC Batgirl Movie Casts Leslie Grace

When Robbie heard of Grace's casting, she expressed excitement and joked about calling up Warner Bros. immediately. Robbie most recently appeared in The Suicide Squad, her third movie as Harley Quinn. Her next DC film isn't officially set, but it seems all but guaranteed that she will be back eventually. In fact, her DCEU future just might end up including Grace's Batgirl should the franchise choose to revisit the Birds of Prey. In the 2020 movie, Harley took Barbara's spot on the team. A sequel or even spin-off could find Harley reuniting with the Birds, only to learn they've taken on a new member.

It would certainly be exciting to see Harley and Batgirl come face to face, but right now, it's all about actually bringing the latter to life. Batgirl doesn't yet have a release date, but it is currently being positioned as an HBO Max exclusive. Little is known about the plot or supporting cast, though J.K. Simmons is reportedly in talks to return as Commissioner Gordon. Hopefully, more Batgirl updates will emerge soon - including the answer to whether or not she will ever meet up with other DCEU characters.
