A stunning fan art imagines actress Sadie Sink as the new DC Universe Batgirl. Sink rose to global stardom after joining Netflix's most popular series, Stranger Things, during season 2, playing May Mayfield. Max's near-death experiences in Stranger Things season 4 gathered a lot of social media chatter, particularly lauding Sink's emotional and grounded performance. As James Gunn and Peter Safran prepare to reboot the DCU, Sink could make a great addition to the new universe as Batgirl.

Digital artist horrific.heroics shared on Instagram his vision of Sink as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl for the new DCU.

The art positions Sink with a different suit from the one Leslie Grace wore as the titular character in the canceled Batgirl movie. The Stranger Things breakout star embodies Barbara Gordon's demeanor in the fan art, with a suit that's more like the classic Batgirl design than the more modern comics' Burnside-inspired take from the ill-fated movie.

Why Sadie Sink Is Perfect For Batgirl

New DC Studios co-CEOs Gunn and Safran are actively planning the next eight to ten years of movies and TV shows in the DCU. Gunn has even revealed that the first projects in the slate will become publicly known by the end of January. As the DCU prepares itself for a reboot, numerous names have been circulating social media as possible new additions to the DC pantheon of live-action heroes, and Stranger Things' Sink as Barbara Gordon might be an ideal suggestion. Sink's future after Stranger Things, which will wrap up after the next season, is also brimming with potential.

DC could eye soon-to-be in-demand Sink, as the actor exemplifies through her role as Max Mayfield that she could portray Barbara Gordon if given the chance. Sink's similarities to the character go beyond her and Barbara's physical resemblance, which includes Batgirl's iconic red hair. Stranger Things' Max shares Barbara's fearless, tomboyish, and determined personality, and both characters live in a city plagued by the darkness — Hawkins, and Gotham, respectively. Sink also showed her ability to play Max's observant and intelligent side, which is another quality shared with Barbara Gordon — especially if the DCU adapts her Oracle role.

Could The Canceled Batgirl Movie Live On In The DCU?

As Sink has evidently displayed the traits necessary to give life to Barbara Gordon in the DCU, the only real impediment to the actor's casting would be if Gunn and Safran were to somehow revive the canceled Batgirl movie. While Grace was a promising casting as Batgirl, given photos of her final suit design and intriguing behind-the-scenes footage, any revival for Batgirl seems unlikely. The movie was canceled due to David Zaslav — DC parent company Warner Bros. Discovery's CEO — making it a tax write-off in a major cost-cutting effort. That move means Batgirl can't be legally released, which likely kills any chance of Grace returning as Barbara Gordon — opening up Sink's path or any other actor to be the DCU Batgirl.
