Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Nightwing #97

It's no secret that Nightwing's fans in the real world care a lot about his love life, and Batgirl is well aware of the internet debate (which apparently happens in the DCU as well). Having professed their love to each other in recent issues of Nightwing, Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon embark on their first mission as an official couple following the Battle for Blüdhaven's Heart. As such, the aftermath confirms the drama of Nightwing's relationships is just as much of an internet hop topic as it is in real life.

Previously in DC's Nightwing from Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo, Dick Grayson assembled many of his closest allies to help him simultaneously shut down Blockbuster's entire empire in Blüdhaven while Nightwing faced the crime boss directly. However, some of Blockbuster's chief allies such as Salvatore Maroni still need to be dealt with as seen in the new Nightwing #97. Assisting in a prisoner transport after Maroni agrees to testify in Gotham City, Nightwing and Batgirl are forced to save Maroni from criminals seeking to silence the mob leader before he can share what he knows.

Taking Maroni to one of Batman's safehouses in Gotham Forest, Dick and Barbara finally spend some intimate time together while they lie low. Eventually, Maroni figures out that the two vigilantes are an item despite being tied up and tranquilized. While the concept of heroes being in relationships is a new concept for the mob boss, Batgirl confirms it's a big point of internet debate just as it is for many real-life fans who want to see their favorite heroes get together.

If Anyone Knows About Nightwing's Internet Drama, It's Batgirl

Batgirl and Nightwing's Relationship

Assuming that the internet talk is the same as in real life, there's an implication that there are some in the DCU who wanted Nightwing to get together with Starfire, his other primary love interest in the comics rather than choosing Batgirl. As such, Barbara herself probably knows she's not very well-liked by fans who were in the "DickKory" camp. On the other hand, many Nightwing fans have been celebrating the official relationship status of "DickBabs".

Regardless of the comic itself, it's extremely gratifying to see Tom Taylor monitoring and disapproving the real-life internet drama Dick Grayson's love life can cause, especially when it gets too ugly. At the end of the day, Nightwing and Batgirl are simply two fictional characters who are now in a fictional relationship. While it's meant to be entertaining (and is), the debate shouldn't become so extreme that it becomes harmful and toxic. That's when fans miss the whole point in the first place. Nightwing #97 is on sale now.
