With Leslie Grace entering the DCEU as the latest iteration of BatgirlBatman & Robin's Alicia Silverstone chimes in with her thoughts about the new costume. Barbara Gordon has been having quite the adventure in the world of live-action lately. 2021 saw the heroine return to television in Titans season 3, where Savannah Welch portrayed Commissioner Barbara Gordon, carrying on her father's legacy. However, the female caped crusader is also about to join Warner Bros.' expanding DCEU in her own solo film, starring Grace as the titular heroine. Directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, Batgirl will focus on the story of Barbara becoming Gotham City's latest protector.

Grace became the latest actress to don the cape and cowl for the first time since 1997's Batman & Robin. As played by Silverstone, Barbara was reimagined as Alfred Pennyworth's niece in this iteration. That was only one of the many weird aspects of the late '90s installment that bombed at the box office. Since then, Batgirl hasn't been back on the big screen, and was briefly on TV on the short-lived Birds of Prey series, with Dina Meyer's Barbara operating as Oracle. However, Grace will now be the one to bring the iconic hero back into the movie world after 25 long years. Following the big costume reveal for the HBO Max film, Silverstone has now become one of Grace's latest fans.

In an interview with Comic Book Movie, Silverstone was asked about the upcoming Batgirl solo film and what she thought about Grace donning the costume. Not only was the former Batgirl excited for her successor, but she had only praise about the suit. While discussing how thrilled she is for Grace playing Batgirl, Silverstone noted a few key differences between their respective suits, saying the following:

"I think she's going to be wonderful. Her costume looks amazing and I'm happy for her. She must be very excited. Her costume looks way more comfortable than mine was. And a lot less vulnerable! Mine was like, 'Bing!' It's just weird."

Silverstone couldn't be more right about Grace's Batgirl costume looking more practical than the one used in Batman & Robin. Grace also benefits from the fact that her suit is based on one of the most modernized designs from the comics. Back in the '90s, there were still a few good choices from the comics that the Joel Schumacher film could have adapted. It will always remain a mystery why they went with that specific suit for Silverstone's character. Although looking at the bigger picture, their depiction of Batgirl wasn't even the biggest problem in Batman & Robin.

While Silverstone has been open in the past about the negative aspects of her Batgirl experience in Batman & Robin, it's still great to see her support Grace. Even though it has become very common for actors to get asked in interviews to react to a new version of a character they played years ago, it's always lovely when positive words are shared. Silverstone's comments are no exception, and hopefully, Grace has seen the kind words she shared. As Batgirl continues with principal photography, fans will ideally not have to wait for too long to see Grace in action in the first trailer that will likely also reveal the official release date on HBO Max.
