Basic Instinct hasn’t lost its cult status in the 30 years since its release, but it has gained a 4K restoration that will show when it is released in theaters internationally this June. The 1992 erotic thriller, which was met with controversy and mixed critical reaction upon its release, will now allow new viewers to witness scenes like Sharon Stone’s infamous interrogation in the way it was meant to be shown.

Collider reports that the film is set for a June release, but excited fans can watch a new trailer now. Original director, Paul Verhoeven, supervised the restoration commissioned by StudioCanal, restoring it from the original 35MM negative. The re-release also includes additional material from the film’s stars, Sharon Stone and Michael Douglas. Check out the trailer from StudiocanalUK below:

The first release of the restored version will take place in France, followed by a release in theaters in Australia and New Zealand before the U.S. roll-out. StudioCanal also had French artist, Flore Maquin, create two pieces of artworks to promote the release of the restored Basic Instinct. Maquin was also responsible for the creation of the Cannes Film Festival posters of 2018 and 2019 for the film. Fans can also look forward to the inclusion of a StudioCanal documentary on the DVD release of the restored film. The documentary, entitled Basic Instinct, Sex, Death & Stone includes interviews from the actors, editors, and cinematographer behind the film.

In 1992, Basic Instinct enticed viewers who couldn’t look away, even if they wanted to, from the dangerously salacious relationship between detective Nick Curran (Douglas) and murder suspect, Catherine Tramell (Sharon Stone). Somehow, the film has been able to retain its almost overwhelmingly shocking nature despite the passage of time, and the 4K restoration ensures that no elements of the film will lose their impact.
