Filming for Barry season 4 is officially underway, and some of the show's stars have taken to Twitter to celebrate getting back to work. First premiering on HBO in 2018, Barry quickly became a success, telling the story of a hitman who attempts to leave his old life behind to become an actor in Hollywood. Equal parts bloody and hilarious, Barry features Bill Hader as co-creator, writer, star, and, often, director. The show most recently concluded season 3, ending on a major cliffhanger.Building on the action-packed ending of season 2, season 3 of Barry is noticeably darker in tone and more violent, not only for Hader's titular character but also for all of those around him. The tumultuous relationship between NoHo Hank (Anthony Carrigan) and Cristobal (Michael Irby) ultimately results in a handful of deaths, with Hank notably rescuing Cristobal from forced conversion therapy. After Sally (Sarah Goldberg) dumps him, Hader's Barry experiences his darkest season ending yet and is taken into custody by a SWAT team after being manipulated by his acting teacher, Gene (Henry Winkler). Thankfully, before season 3 even concluded, HBO renewed Barry for season 4.Related: Barry Season 3 Ending Explained (In Detail)Despite season 3's darker tone, the stars of Barry look thrilled to be getting back to work, as shown in new images taken behind the scenes celebrating the start of filming for season 4. Winkler shared a photo of himself with Hader on August 2 to celebrate his return to filming, and Irby commemorated his first day with his own photo of him and Carrigan. Notably, Winkler's photo sees Hader in casual clothes with headphones on, which is fitting considering it's been confirmed that Hader will direct all eight episodes of the upcoming season. Although Gene spends much of Barry season 3 constantly threatened by Hader's character, the finale sees him finally get some semblance of revenge by seemingly helping to orchestrate Barry's arrest. With Barry not likely to take kindly to being manipulated by his former acting teacher, it's likely that season 4 will see the rift between the characters continue to grow. Despite this, however, Winkler's recent photo affirms that his real-life relationship with Hader couldn't be more pleasant.

Similarly, the romantic relationship between Hank and Cristobal was an even bigger focus in Barry season 3, with the two characters' futures left up in the air after Hank's daring rescue. Irby's picture certainly suggests that the dynamic between Hank and Cristobal will continue to be a central part of Barry's story moving beyond season 3, with the caption even referencing Hank's previous desire to split his criminal earnings with Cristobal "50/50." With filming just now getting underway, however, it'll likely be quite a while before Barry viewers get an official trailer for season 4.
