Bill Hader is ready to start shooting Barry season 3 and 4 as soon as possible since the show's writers have finished both seasons of HBO dark comedy. Barry revolves around Hader as the title character, a depressed former-Marine-turned-hitman who comes across an acting class and tries to build a new career while leaving his old criminal life behind. The show has received critical acclaim for its first two seasons, winning two Primetime Emmy Awards, one for each Hader and Henry Winkler.
Bill Hader states that he is now waiting until it is officially safe to begin filming for the upcoming seasons. In a recent interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Hader said that before the lockdown occurred, the third season was completely written and the team was doing a table read for the first two episodes, ready to shoot in a week. Hader's full comment can be read below:
“Right when the lockdown happened in March we were a week away from shooting. The last time I was in a room with a lot of people was the table read for Episodes 1 and 2 of Season 3 and we were ready to go. And then it all got shut down. Season 3 is completely written and ready to go, and during this time we actually went and wrote Season 4, so we have both of those kind of done. We’re just waiting until we can start shooting again.”
Due to the coronavirus pandemic in Los Angeles, where Barry is shot, it is unclear when production in Hollywood will be back up and running. While HBO has only renewed Barry for season 3, given the show's critical praise and awards success, it seems likely that the show will be looking at a fourth season, so it makes sense that Hader and his team would use this long quarantine to plan ahead. Additionally, the show previously had an early-season renewal, so it proves immense support from the network.
