Eva Mendes reveals the odd prop request to Ryan Gosling from his upcoming film Barbie. Based on the classic Mattel toy series of the same name, the Barbie film is co-written and directed by Oscar-nominated Lady Bird and Little Women director Greta Gerwig. Margot Robbie will star as the titular blonde character with Ryan Gosling portraying her male counterpart, Ken. However, similar to the toy line, there will be multiple versions of the main characters with Issa Rae playing an alternate Barbie and Simu Liu playing another Ken variant.

Recent set photos and promotional images have revealed clear looks at the live-action versions of Barbie and Ken, as well as a possible villain played by SNL-alum Will Ferrell. One such promotional image of Gosling caused a fervor amongst fans on social media. The photo in question featured the actor dressed as Ken with bleached white hair, sporting a sleeveless denim jacket over his bare torso, and Calvin Klein-style underwear band peeking from above pant waist.

During a recent discussion on The Talk, Gosling's longtime partner, Mendes, revealed her odd prop request from the Barbie film set. The actor admitted that the viral image of Gosling as Ken made her feel like a teenage girl again which spurned her to ask Gosling for his underwear from the film. Read what Mendes said below.

"Well, first of all, I saw the photo and the 14-year-old in me was like, 'Ahhh.' It's a funny photo, and he's trying to be funny, so it worked on all levels. When I saw it, when he sent it to me from work, I was like, 'Can I please have that underwear? Please, I never ask for anything,'"

"So anyway, I do have it. I'm wearing it right now."

Barbie Movie Ryan Gosling Ken

Mendes' humorous costume request exemplifies the strong bond she has with Gosling. Her giddy response to the promotional photo, an image that caused her to swoon like a teenager over a Tiger Beat heartthrob, only shows the meaningful connection she still has for her partner of over 10 years. The passionate reaction behind Gosling's Ken costume is also a testament to the attention to detail by Barbie's costume designer who stylized the costume on popular underwear ads and models of the 1990s.

Actors keeping props from their films is not an uncommon practice in Hollywood. Sam Neill admitted that he held onto his comfortable boots from Jurassic Park, Diego Luna took home a few Imperial credits from his forthcoming Andor television series, and Christian Bale recently revealed that he kept Gorr the God Butcher's sword from Thor: Love and Thunder as well as a few of the cowls from Batman's costumes in the Christopher Nolan Dark Knight film trilogy. Mendes' strange request for Gosling's costume underwear from Barbie is both a funny and sweet expression of love for her partner.
