The Barbie movie is rendered into an Oppenheimer-style poster in a hilarious parody of Christopher Nolan's upcoming movie. Oppenheimer is an upcoming film by acclaimed sci-fi and action director Christopher Nolan. It is a biopic that focuses on the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the man who developed the atomic bomb. Barbie is, unsurprisingly, about Barbie dolls, and stars Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. Barbie is directed by Lady Bird and Little Women director Greta Gerwig.
Though they are both a year out from their release dates, Oppenheimer and Barbie have been in the news recently. This week in particular has been a big week for Oppenheimer, as the film’s team released its first poster and its teaser trailer is being played in theaters before Jordan Peele’s Nope. Barbie, on the other hand, has been filming this summer, mainly on Venice Beach in Los Angeles. Robbie and Gosling have been spotted by countless passersby and their Barbie outfits have been the talk of Twitter and other social media platforms.
Now, Barbie and Oppenheimer combine in a new poster. The poster, made by Twitter user Cassie Grace, riffs on the exact format of Oppenheimer’s first poster. Instead of Cillian Murphy amidst an orange-red, explosive background, however, the explosion becomes bright pink and Robbie is placed at the center. Check out the poster below:

There is one thing that this poster did not have to change in its photoshop edits: the release date. Oppenheimer and Barbie are currently both slated for release on July 21, 2023. This fact has already been the talk of the internet, making jokes about the two films needing to compete for audiences.
While the Oppenheimer and Barbie target audiences might not be inherently the same, it reasons to stand that releasing the same day may in fact prove challenging for the two films. Besides Tenet, which did not make a profit at the box office, Nolan’s films have been incredibly commercially successful and normally do well in their first weekend. On the other hand, Barbie is already gaining huge traction and popularity all over the internet a year before its release. Furthermore, though it is a live-action Barbie movie, the film is helmed by an Oscar-winning talent in Gerwig, and stars a phenomenal lead and supporting cast of actors popular in many circuits. For these reasons, it is possible that Barbie will provide more legitimate competition to Oppenheimer than one might have initially expected because it is already seeming to garner a wide fan base.
Whatever the case may end up with the Oppenheimer and Barbie box office battle, this new combined poster is nonetheless a fun addition to the Barbie and Oppenheimer memes. The Oppenheimer cast has already taken to joking about it, with actor Devon Bostick recently poking fun at the Barbie cast sleepover, sarcastically saying that the Oppenheimer cast did the same thing. Barbie and Oppenheimer will likely continue their lighthearted chiding and competing memes as the two films continue their development throughout the next few months.
