A new Barbie movie display lets fans and excited prospective viewers step into the film’s pink plastic world. A joint production between LuckyChap Entertainment, Mattel Films, and Heyday Films, Warner Bros. Pictures gained the rights to distribute the film in 2018. Anticipation is high for the first live-action Barbie adaptation of the franchise, which concluded filming in July and is currently set for a July 23, 2023 release.

According to Collider, the Barbie booth at São Paulo’s CCXP event immerses attendees into the world of the iconic doll. The display exhibits all-things-pink, including replicas of quintessential settings and objects. One section is summer-specific, featuring beach chairs and a slide descending into a shallow water-esque ball pit. A model of the convertible Barbie's Margot Robbie drives in the film is placed adjacent to a poster showing a still of the actor portraying Barbie. Check out images of the display below:

What To Expect From The Barbie Movie

One major reason that expectations are so high for the film is the stacked cast. Headed by Robbie and Ryan Gosling, who portrays Ken, the cast is further bolstered by actors like Simu Liu, America Ferrera, Issa Rae, Will Ferrell, and more. The screenplay was also penned by Oscar nominees Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig, the latter of whom also serves as the director; cast members like Liu and Emma Mackey have affirmed the script’s rare greatness. Sneak peeks during the Barbie production have also confirmed the costumes are fun and intricate, and the sets intriguingly elaborate.

In terms of the plot itself, few details have been revealed, other than Robbie’s Barbie being expelled and going on a quest for happiness. There being multiple Barbies and Kens seems to point to either a Barbie Land multiverse or dystopia, which will be interesting to see play out. As for genre, the film is best characterized as a subversive romantic comedy, as promised by Gerwig - though with Mattel involved, the subversiveness will likely be capped somewhat. Given that writers Gerwig and Baumbach, known for recent works like Little Women and Marriage Story, consistently create funny but poignant stories, viewers can again expect some emotionally rich material.

With development extending all the way back to 2009, it’s certainly a relief to many that Barbie is finally being made. Warner Bros. has invested a lot of attention into this movie and ensured it has industry leaders at the helm. Additionally, the hefty budget is estimated to be about $100 million. Barbie should optimistically be able to make those returns at the box office and more, as long as progress continues to be as positive as it is now. The booth at CCXP is likely to raise even more hype, as another sign of promise of what fans have to look forward to with Barbie premiering next July.
