Adult Swim continues its long and storied tradition of making animation that engenders shocks and giggles with Ballmastrz: Rubicon. The adult animated special, which airs at midnight on February 20, serves as a sequel to the events of Ballmasterz: 9009 season 2. As secrets from Crayzar’s past threaten the future of the planet, he is faced with a terrifying cosmic dilemma: grow some balls and bring Team Earth together, or leave humanity to the proverbial intergalactic wolves.

Created by Christy Karacas (Superjail!), Ballmastrz: Rubicon is a must-watch special for fans of the original series. With Japan's STUDIO4℃ (Detroit Metal City) in charge of the animation, the story and characters look better than ever. Speaking of characters, fearless leader Gaz Digzy is back in action and she's still voiced by Natasha Lyonne. After blowing up in recent live-action series such as Russian Doll and Poker Face, it's only fair that Lyonne enthusiasts get the chance to hear her sultry tones in animation once more.

Ballmastrz: Rubicon is the Ultimate Battle

BallMastrz Rubicon Special Still

Aside from updated animation, the trailer for Ballmastrz: Rubicon offers an earworm of a song that's impossible to get out of your head and potentially worthy of a Jojo's Bizarre Adventure intro. Promising a united front in the battle for the human race, which can only be won by obtaining the cosmic answers the team seek, Caracas is setting the bar (or the ball) high for the new special. But the war is half-won thanks to the comedic genius he already brought to the first two seasons as well as to Superjail! — not to mention the fact that the original cast is back for the shenanigans.

That's right, fans can rejoice at the thought that not only is Natasha Lyonne back as Gaz, but so are Dana Snyder and Dave Willis (Aqua Teen Hunger Force), as well as Eric Bauza (Looney Tunes Cartoons) and Jessica DiCicco (Adventure Time). As Karacas so enthusiastically explained in the press release, “We got the teams back together, but this time it’s more than a game, it’s the ultimate battle for humanity’s survival!” The space opera is sure to have some epic highs and lows for Crayzar and the Leptons as all the teams of the game join forces in what might be their wildest adventure yet.

Adult Swim has been provided quality adult animation for over fifteen yeats now, even winning awards and pop culture cache with series such as Rick and Morty and Smiling Friends. Fans of Ballmastrz: 9009 should make sure to look out for the fellow February special, KING STAR KING!/!/!/, which arrives one week earlier on February 13.
