Developer Larian Studios has revealed some of the new features in the upcoming Patch 5 for Baldur's Gate 3, which include changes to the story and needing to manage camp resources. Baldur's Gate 3 is currently available in Early Access and it has gradually received new content, including the Druid class.

Baldur's Gate 3 isn't due to receive a full release until 2022 at the earliest, but Larian keeps releasing patches for the Early Access version. Not only do these patches add new features, but they change aspects of the game based on fan feedback. It was due to fan feedback that the party members' personalities were made less hostile, while loaded dice were included to make skill checks easier to complete, as fans found it frustrating to have all of their work undone by a single Baldur's Gate 3 dice roll.

A new video from Larian Studios has outlined some of the changes that will be made to the game when Patch 5 launches on July 13. The biggest new addition to the game is camp resources, where the party consumes food when resting. If the party doesn't have sufficient food, then the effectiveness of the rest will be lessened. The amount of food needed will go up as the party increases in level. This will stop players from spamming rests while adventuring and force them to be more tactical in their approach. The camp resource system is just being tested in Patch 5 and it could be tweaked or cut from the final game.

The other major change is that the player can now use buff spells, such as guidance, to increase their chances during skill rolls. This is done from the skill check screen, cutting down on a lot of the prep time. The player can now earn Inspiration and experience points by completing actions that match the player's choice of character background. It's now possible to free Shadowheart during the tutorial, which changes interactions with her in the rest of the story. Over 800 new lines of dialogue have been recorded for the party members, as they will now comment when performing actions. It's easier for pacifist-run players to toggle non-lethal attacks. The visuals for camps now change to match the player's location, while new cinematics have been added for character interactions when the player rests.

Patch 5 promises to be a massive update for Baldur's Gate 3, with some experimental ideas that could change how the final version of the game works. The full version of Baldur's Gate 3 might be a long way away, but fans can keep experiencing new content in the Early Access updates.
