The early access release of Baldur's Gate 3 has taken gamers across the globe by storm. With the game currently boasting and impressive amount of content, despite only being in a very early release edition, players are excited to see what further updates will add. Fans of the game are able to get an idea of just how much will be coming when they look at the map of Faerun that has been released for the new installation, bringing up the question: Just how big is the map for Baldur's Gate 3 going to be?

Regardless of the race or class Baldur's Gate 3 players picks when they boot up the game for the first time, the character creation isn't the only thing that has a potentially endless number of possibilities. Currently only a very small potion of the Baldur's Gate 3 map has markers for towns or places to travel to. Despite this small space, the game can already boast a solid 20-25 hours of in-game content, just in this tiny fragment of the map. With so little of Faerun currently in use, the mystery of what is yet to come has players on the edge of their seats.

It also appears that the area Baldur's Gate 3 players are currently exploring may actually be one of the more sparsely populated spots in the game, as it is a great deal of travel away from the actual city of Baldur's Gate. This could imply that the early access levels of Baldur's Gate 3 hasn't even touched what will likely by the most plot-heavy locations of the game. This allows players to really get a feel for the game during the early access period, but still have a rich and expansive story waiting for them as Baldur's Gate 3 reaches completion. By keeping players on the far end of the map, they will have an entire continent to look forward to without having had the biggest areas spoiled during the player feedback sessions with developers.

With so much of Baldur's Gate 3's map unrevealed, players can take their time exploring the already impressive amount of content and locations available to them in early access. It appears that the bigger cities in Baldur's Gate 3 may follow along the river at the center of the map, and then grow less populated and dwindle down to smaller towns and villages the further away from the water it gets. This is encouraged by the fact that the city of Baldur's Gate is also on the river. It could be that new areas along the river will be released over time, bringing early access players closer and closer to the city, and what will likely be the hub for bigger plot points.

The early access look at Baldur's Gate 3's map reveals the vast number of possibilities where developers could be taking the game, and its players. Releasing small parts of the map at a time gives invested players the chance to watch the game grow both in story and in rewarding mechanics. With so much of the map unseen, and so much content already available, watching the parchment unfurl will be just as rewarding as saving Faerun itself, inviting all Baldur's Gate 3 players to pick up a walking stick and go exploring the new world together.
