The Early Access version of Baldur's Gate 3 is adding the Druid class to the game, allowing players to become righteous defenders of nature. The Druid is one of the basic classes from Dungeons & Dragonswhich can be found in the Player's Handbook.

There are currently six classes available in the Early Access version of Baldur's Gate 3, and fans expect that all of the classes from the Player's Handbook will make their way into the game over time. These classes were adapted to the video game format, including some of D&D's combat rules. The Druid will face similar restrictions, as the scope of their class abilities is near limitless in the tabletop game, but they have been adapted in interesting ways in Baldur's Gate 3.

The Druids will soon arrive in Baldur's Gate 3 and they'll add a ton of different experiences in a new playthrough. There are few classes that can match the Druid in how they interact with the natural world, and it will offer a lot of incentive to visit the Forgotten Realms again.

Baldur's Gate 3: What Is The Druid Class?

The Baldur's Gate 3 Druid Cover

In D&D, Druids are the protectors of nature and preservers of balance. There are some who take this notion to ideological extremes, with some representing the nurturing part of nature, and others representing the uncaring chaos of the natural world. Nature takes no sides in this conflict, as all Druids have access to powerful magical abilities that are granted by the world around them. Druids use 1d8 for their hit dice, they are proficient with shields, as well as light and medium armor, but they cannot wear armor made from metal. Druids possess simple weapon proficiency.

Wild Shape - The most famous ability of the Druid allows them to turn into animals. Baldur's Gate 3's Druids will restrict this to seven animals: badger, cat, dire wolf, polar bear, raven, spider, and deep rothe. Each of these possesses unique abilities, with the badger able to burrow underground, the cat able to alert enemies, and the spider able to ensnare enemies in webs. These animal forms can also blend in with others of their kind, as well as communicate with them. Larian Studios has created unique climbing animations for each animal form.

Spells - Druids share some spells with Clerics, while also possessing nature magic of their own. Their spell list includes a mixture of healing spells, offensive spells that are tied to nature (fire, lightning), and spells that let them communicate with or influence the natural world. In Baldur's Gate 3, Druids will be able to use spells like flame blade, flaming sphere, and goodberryFlaming sphere allows the player to roll a ball of fire around the battlefield, igniting everything as it goes, while goodberry creates a bunch of healing berries.

Subclasses - The two Druid subclasses from the Player's Handbook are coming to Baldur's Gate 3. Once the player reaches level two, they can choose between the Circle of the Land and Circle of the Moon. Circle of the Land Druids learn an extra cantrip and can regain spell slots from a short rest, while Circle of the Moon Druids can Wild Shape as a bonus action and burn spell slots to heal in battle, making it far more viable in combat.
