Apple Studios will back and distribute Bad Blood, a Jennifer Lawrence-starring feature about Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes. The film will track the rise and fall of the disgraced CEO, whose blood-testing startup catapulted Holmes, a would-be health care revolutionary, to billionaire status and darling of many a private investor. The company collapsed following an expose by former Wall Street Journal reporter John Carreyrou. Bad Blood is based on his book, Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup. Holmes is currently on trial for fraud allegations.

Now Bad Blood has officially found a home at Apple, The Wrap confirms, where the film will be a co-production in association with Legendary Pictures. Adam McKay will direct, write, and produce the film via his Hyperobject Industries banner, which has a first-look, multi-year deal with Apple.

Also producing Bad Blood is Lawrence and her Excellent Cadaver producing partner Justine Polsky. Will Ferrell is producing through Gary Sanchez Productions, the banner formerly run by Ferrell and McKay. Bad Blood, like other ongoing projects including Succession, has been in the works since before the pair’s professional fallout.

Bad Blood marks the second collaboration between Lawrence and McKay, whose upcoming film Don’t Look Up debuts in theaters on December 10 and hits Netflix on December 23. The political satire also stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Timotheé Chalamet, Tyler Perry, Mark Rylance, Jonah Hill, and Ariana Grande. If Don't Look Up's star-studded ensemble is any indication, fans should keep an eye out for the remaining Bad Blood casting announcements.
