Back to the Future Cast Reunites 33 Years Later in New Photo

The main cast of classic time-traveling adventure Back to the Future reunites for a new photo, 33 years after the hit film's theatrical release. While Back to the Future stands today as one of the most beloved movies of the 1980s, it certainly isn't a film that only caught on after the fact. Director Robert Zemeckis had a huge hit on his hands right away, with Back to the Future raking in nearly $400 million worldwide on a budget of less than $20 million, and earning immediate critical raves.

Back to the Future was of course such a big success that it spawned two sequels, shot back to back, forming a trilogy. While the sequels aren't held in as high a regard as the original, few would claim them to be outright bad films, as it seems like Zemeckis, his writers, and his cast couldn't do much wrong when all working together. Stars Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, and Thomas F. Wilson have all gone on to long-lasting careers, but it's doubtful any would protest the idea that they'll always be best known for their roles in the series.

During this weekend's Boston Fan Expo, Fox, Lloyd, Thompson, and Wilson saw fit to reunite, much to the delight of those fans lucky enough to be in attendance. This was the first time they've all been together since 2015's 30th anniversary celebration, and each commemorated the special occasion by posting a group photo on their Instagram accounts. The post from Michael J. Fox's account can be seen below.

Fox's caption is visible above, while Wilson wrote “Wow. This just happened.," Thompson wrote “Four old friends get back from the future.” and Lloyd wrote “This was special.” Clearly, all four actors remain great friends, even if they don't get too many opportunities to all be in the same place at the same time. Sadly - or happily, depending on one's point of view - fans aren't likely to ever see characters Marty McFly, Doc Brown, Lorraine Baines-McFly, and Biff Tannen share the big screen together ever again.

Last month, Lloyd expressed his desire to play Doc Brown in a fourth Back to the Future film, but Zemeckis was quick to put the kibosh on that idea. Franchise producer Frank Marshall also promised back in 2016 that the series would never be remade or rebooted. Thus, the Back to the Future franchise will remain a memory. On the plus side, what a great memory it is, both for fans, and the cast and crew who brought the movies to life.
