Back 4 Blood offers players a variety of characters to play as, but some of them need to be unlocked before they can be used. Holly, Evangelo, Mom, and Walker are available from the start. Players will need to progress through the campaign if they want to unlock Doc, Hoffman, Jim, and Karly.

Players don't need to worry, however, as it isn't a difficult journey to unlock them all. Players simply need to complete the prologue of Act 1 on co-op mode. There will also be new characters in upcoming DLCs for Back 4 Blood, but it is hasn't been said how these characters will be unlocked.

Not only will players naturally collect the remaining characters after completing the first four missions, but players will also be incentivized to do so if they want access to each character's specific perk. Finding the right character to suit a player's playstyle will be essential for progressing through the game as easily as possible.

Back 4 Blood's Four Extra Character's Traits

  • Doc's traits allow players to heal their teammates in Back 4 Blood for 25 health once per level. She also provides increased healing efficiency, and her team will find themselves with increased trauma resistance. Her preferred weapon is the Beretta M9
  • Hoffman's traits allow players to find ammo when they kill Ridden. Players will provide their team with +10% max ammo capacity. Hoffman also provides the player with an extra Offensive Inventory slot, and they'll start every game with an ammo pack. His preferred weapon is the M1911 Pistol.
  • Jim's traits allow players to increase their damage by 5%, up to a max of 50%, until they take damage. Players will also have increase Aim Down Sight speed, and their teammates will have increased weakspot damage against the special infected in Back 4 Blood. His preferred weapon is the 357 Magnum
  • Kerlee's traits allow players to sense hazards. Their teammates will have an increase in Use speed, and the player will also benefit from an extra Quick Inventory slot. Her preferred weapon is Black 4 Blood's Tec 9.

Players can switch characters any time in Fort Hope. However, starting a mission with a new character will cause players to lose the guns they collected previously. Players should also build a Back 4 Blood deck that compliments their character's traits to fully utilize them to their full potential.
