Pardeep Singh recently made history on The Bachelorette as the first Indian-American man to receive a rose on the show. The 30-year-old was one of many men chosen by Michelle Young to stick around another week, but her decision to keep exploring a connection with this contestant was particularly meaningful. For several years, The Bachelor franchise has been under fire for a lack of representation over the years. Many see Pardeep's casting and advancement on the show as a good sign that things are shifting in a positive direction.

The Bachelorette season 18 premiered on Monday night, and nearly every suitor pulled out all the stops to impress Michelle, an elementary school teacher who won the hearts of viewers in Matt James' season of The Bachelor. While the intentions of some of the men on The Bachelorette were questionable, others--including Pardeep--seemed to be there for the right reasons. According to his official biography, Pardeep is a neuroscientist living in Brooklyn, New York. When he's not working to find cures for Parkinson's and Alzheimer's, he's attending Comic-Con, playing video games and hosting the podcast Deep Thoughts, which features minorities in the sciences, arts and public service.

On the heels of The Bachelorette season 18 premiere, Pardeep excitedly took to his Instagram Story. He wrote, "Officially the first Indian-American to ever get a rose on The Bachelorette." There were several Indian-American women who advanced on The Bachelor, such as Kirpa Sudick, who was eliminated in week 7 in Colton Underwood's season, but Pardeep is the first to do so on The Bachelorette. Several fan accounts shared responses to Pardeep's Instagram Story. There was an overarching agreement that he seems like a sweet guy who needs more airtime in upcoming episodes. Some even suggested that he be named the first Indian Bachelor lead if he and Michelle don't work out as a couple.

Bachelor Nation is excited to see a contestant of Indian decent, an occurrence that's been extremely rare throughout the franchise's history. On Reddit, one fan suggested that this may be due to the Indian culture. "I can't imagine my Indian friends' parents loving the idea of them going on the Bachelor/ette," they said. Or it could be due to producers' casting decisions. Regardless, recent seasons have featured more diverse casts, something many--especially former Bachelorette lead Rachel Lindsay--have been fiercely advocating for.

Only time will tell how things pan out between Pardeep and Michelle. On night one, her first impression rose and kiss went to the first man to step out of the limo--Nayte Olukoya, a 27-year-old sales executive from Austin, Texas. However, more relationships will surely be explored in the coming weeks as Michelle attempts to determine who is husband material. She's seeking a love reminiscent of her parents', who have been happily married for over 30 years, and likely won't settle until she finds just that.

The Bachelorette airs Tuesdays at 8pm on ABC.
