Katie Thurston and her new frontrunner, Blake Moynes, have been steaming up the screen on The Bachelorette, but some fans are calling him “fake Blake” and claim the couple’s physical connection is the only one they have. Although Katie was cold to Blake when he first reached out to her on social media before her season, the Bachelorette lead has now fully warmed up to her hunky Canadian contestant. However, many fans are not convinced that the two of them have what it takes to form a lasting relationship and are even questioning Blake’s motives.
Blake was a contestant on Clare/Tayshia’s season of The Bachelorette, though he failed to find much of a spark with either of them. But that wasn’t the end of his Bachelor Nation journey. Blake was impressed by Katie when she was on Matt James’ season of The Bachelor and reached out to her online with not much success. Still, animal lover and Bachelorette contestant Blake felt he was a great match for Katie and asked to join her cast partway through the season.
Since then, Katie and Blake can’t seem to keep their hands off each other on The Bachelorette, and some viewers think that’s a problem. “His relationship with Katie feels really pushed and purely physical,” one fan said on Reddit, arguing that Blake shouldn’t be on the show in the first place. After being on Clare and Tayshia’s season, Blake is dating his third bachelorette, and some fans think he’s chasing fame and Instagram followers. “He gives off the biggest red flag vibes FOR SURE...he seems ridiculously fake to me,” another commenter added. Some said they got “stage-5 clinger vibes” from Blake, and there were others who think he could turn into the season’s second villain.
However, despite the many commenters eager to rain on Katie and Blake’s parade, there were many Bachelorette fans who showed love for Blake on Instagram and Reddit, and defended the couple’s relationship. “I think he came on Katie’s because he liked who she is and wanted to see if something could be there between them,” a pro-Blake fan commented. Others pointed out that unlike many Bachelor Nation alumni whose Instagram feeds are full of sponsored content, Blake’s Instagram is mostly dedicated to his passion for wildlife protection and conservation.
Blake and Katie certainly have a deep physical connection, but that’s not to say they can’t simultaneously develop an emotional connection as well. Both Katie and Blake are very comfortable with their sexuality, and perhaps production is leaning into that and showing more of the couple’s physical side. As for the idea that “fake Blake” just wants to date bachelorettes, that may not be accurate either. Blake wasn’t right for Tayshia or Clare, and it could have been those failed connections that made him realize how compatible he is with Katie.
Right now, Blake is definitely a frontrunner on The Bachelorette, and he does seem to have the best physical connection with Katie. As viewers saw from Connor B.’s exit, that spark is very important to Katie. Regardless of how viewers feel about their relationship, Katie appears to be confident about what she and Blake have, and it’s not hard to imagine him going far this season. At the end of the day, it’s Katie’s decision, and she could very well decide to follow the butterflies in her stomach leading her to Blake.
