The Bachelor star Peter Weber realized over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic that he tends to self-sabotage his best romantic relationships. Bachelor Nation first met the pilot when he finished as the second runner-up on Hannah Brown's season of The Bachelorette. Shortly after his departure from the franchise, he came back as the lead of The Bachelor, where he got down on one knee to propose to his final rose winner, Hannah Ann Sluss. As ABC reality viewers know, that engagement was very short-lived. Peter had second thoughts and went on to beg his season's runner-up, Madison Prewett, for a second chance at re-sparking their love.

Though Madison was hesitant at first, they did give their connection another go and it simply didn't work out. As a result, it didn't take long for Peter to reunite with former contestant Kelley Flanagan. The duo first sparked romance rumors in March 2020, with news that Kelley even got the approval of Peter's protective mom, Barbara Weber. Alas, the couple eventually announced their breakup on New Year's Eve, citing that his mom was a major issue in their long-term relationship. Though the breakup didn't end smoothly, Peter still thinks of Kelley as the best girlfriend he's ever had.

In a new conversation with Dustin Kendrick and relationship expert Dr. Darcy Sterling on the Bachelors in the City podcast, Peter mentioned that he's been single for nine months now, which is the longest gap he's ever had between relationships. This interesting fact led Dr. Darcy to ask the former Bachelor about the common complaints he has heard from previous partners. "I feel like, sometimes, the hopeless romantic in me kind of backfires, because I put such this high level of expectation in my head," Peter explained. "And so I've been really kind of, in these last eight, nine months, really just realizing that and observing how I have been in the past and how I want to try to change myself in the future, moving forward. I think that's probably my biggest Achilles heel - is, honestly, the hopeless romantic."

That said, Peter was also honest enough with himself to realize that he probably takes his romantic tendencies too far. "If I'm being completely honest with you guys, I feel like maybe I self-sabotage relationships," he said. After reflecting on his whirlwind back-to-back romances, Peter also told People that he needed to take a break from dating. "I've gone on my fair share of dates. I think I can take a breather," Peter said. "Looking back, for the past two years, all I've been focused on is a relationship. Now I'm taking a step back and I'm focused on myself. I want to improve myself and become a stronger man in so many ways."

It seems as though Peter's break from Bachelor Nation and the dating scene as a whole has served him well in terms of realizing where he needs to make changes in order to become a more fulfilling and supportive partner. There's no rush to get into a new relationship right now, but it's probably in his best interest to find a woman who hasn't gone on a reality show to find love, which is what The Bachelor star Ben Higgins did. Peter just might find his perfect match somewhere away from the cameras and closer to home.
