The world of The Bachelor is changing fast, and Chris Harrison’s recent departure from the franchise is a sign of ABC having to pay the piper for its spotty history with diversity and racism. Many fans feel disillusioned by the series and are questioning where the show will go from here. But others are trying to turn a negative into a positive and are thinking outside the box when it comes to picking Chris Harrison’s replacement. Several possibilities for a new host have been circulating online, but perhaps none weirder or more random than beloved actor Danny DeVito.

Fans (and former Bachelorette Rachael Lindsay) were furious with Chris Harrison for comments he recently made in response to new information about a Bachelor frontrunner attending a racially-insensitive “Old South” themed ball in 2018. Chris has apologized for defending Rachael Kirkconnel’s actions during his interview with Rachel Lindsay, but fans weren’t satisfied and demanded he be replaced as host of the franchise. He has since stepped down from his hosting duties, though he has not been permanently fired from the position. Regardless, Bachelor Nation fans are eager to find a suitable replacement, even suggesting Rachel Lindsay as a possible new host. But a look through the Bachelor Reddit pages shows that fans have come up with more creative options as well.

A new Reddit thread suggests that actor Danny DeVito—well-known for his iconic roles in It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Matilda, Batman Returns, and more—should serve as the next host of the Bachelor Nation franchise. Fans were surprisingly on-board with the notion, calling it “the best idea anyone has had,” while simultaneously flooding the thread with in-jokes from DeVito’s previous work. Some suggested he would have the leads pass out eggs instead of roses and that instead of champagne there would be “rum ham for all!” But not all fans were convinced he’d work out as a host, claiming female contestants would “find themselves overwhelmingly sexually attracted to the DeVito.”

Danny Devito inspired Seth Green's Howard the Duck voice

The nomination of Danny DeVito as The Bachelor’s new host shows just how far Chris Harrison’s esteem has fallen in the eyes of fans. Chris was once the goofy, lovable host of the franchise but has now become a pariah that had Bachelor fans petitioning to get him fired. A replacement from inside Bachelor Nation is most likely, with Jojo Fletcher a possible option due to her turn as a fill-in host during Tayshia Adams’ season of The Bachelorette. However, fans aren’t ruling anyone out, and in the same Danny DeVito thread, others suggested Joe Pesci, Christopher Walken, Billy Eichner, and Nicole Byer as other possibilities.

Chris Harrison’s departure leaves the door wide open for any number of new and exciting hosts and paves the way for a fresh direction in Bachelor Nation. Will Danny DeVito take over as the new host of The Bachelor franchise? Only if ABC is willing to “get real weird with it.”
