Former The Bachelor lead, Colton Underwood, defended current Bachelor in Paradise contestant Demi Burnett against a troll on Twitter who attacked both Burnett and Underwood, but it didn’t garner the response the troll had hoped.

Fan-favorite Burnett was a contestant on the most recent season of The Bachelor and was eliminated by Underwood during week 6 of the show, though she is much better known for her sharp wit than for her relationship with the former NFL player. Burnett has been a hot topic on this season of Bachelor in Paradise where she revealed that she is bisexual, and in the most recent episode of the show, Burnett’s girlfriend was brought onto the show so the pair could continue their relationship. Bachelor Nation overall was supportive of Burnett when she came out, but there are still a few naysayers who felt their opinions on her sexuality should be heard. One Twitter user decided to take the opportunity to take a shot at both Burnett’s and Underwood.

In a tweet, Underwood responded to a troll who wrote that they didn't blame Burnett for "wanting to date / fall in love with a girl after @colton. I probably would too.” Though he has typically strayed away from the Bachelor Nation drama following his controversial season finale, Underwood responded back to the troll, saying their response was “ignorant” and that it was “sad that this is your takeaway in all this.”  See the full exchange below:

Burnett has not yet responded to the tweet from Underwood or the other Twitter user, despite being quite active on Twitter on Monday and Tuesday nights when Bachelor in Paradise is airing. Most recently, Burnett was involved in a Twitter exchange with The Bachelorette and Bachelor In Paradise alum Tanner Tolbert, who compared Burnett to controversial contestant Jed Wyatt from Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette. Burnett and other Bachelor Nation members were quick to disagree with the comparison, however, saying that her situation was different since Burnett was open with Bachelor in Paradise partner, Derek Peth, about the situation from the beginning.

Regardless of the support she has received from Bachelor Nation and from fellow contestants, such as Underwood, the latest episode of Bachelor in Paradise sparked a debate online about whether or not it's fair that Burnett was allowed to bring her girlfriend Kristian Haggerty onto the show to continue a relationship that already existed. Many online felt that the couple should go home now that they've been reunited, but the teasers for the upcoming episodes seem to show that the pair stays, at least for the time being.
