Bekah Martinez, who appeared on Arie Luyendyk's season of The Bachelor, recently had to dial 911 when a fun day at the beach took a scary turn for herself and her children. As a mother of two – Ruth, 2, and Franklin, 1 – Bekah regularly receives backlash from followers about her parenting style. She was criticized for posting breastfeeding selfies on Instagram and for making Franklin wear a leopard print bow. However, beach bystanders instantly came to Bekah's aid after she accidentally locked the kids in a scorching hot car.

For Bekah, host of the Chatty Broads podcast, 2021 has been chock full of incidents that made her fear for her small family's safety. In March, Bekah was sexually assaulted while enjoying a walk with Ruth and Franklin. A teenager on a skateboard grabbed Bekah inappropriately in front of her babies, and she felt powerless to do anything about it. "He looked so casual, not even in a rush, as he whizzed on past down the sidewalk, only glancing back when he was a block away," said Bekah. During her time on The Bachelor, many fans considered Bekah too young. But the 26-year-old is fiercely protective of her kids, whom she welcomed into the world with boyfriend Grayston Leonard.

On her Instagram Story, as reported by Us Weekly, Bekah recounted the latest terrifying moment when she again felt powerless to protect Ruth and Franklin. Saturday started out enjoyable when Bekah took the pair to the beach to have some fun in the sun. That all changed when it was time to head home. While packing the trunk, Bekah shut the car door to ensure her kids, who were playing on the front seat, didn't fall out. According to Bekah, she "didn't realize the doors were locked [and her] keys and phone were in the front seat." She tried to talk Ruth through unlocking the doors from the inside, especially since "the kids were pouring sweat and Frank was visibly shaking." When Ruth was unable to do so, a bystander lent Bekah a phone to call 911. "A man was just about to help me break open the back window when the fire department got there and helped pry open the door," said Bekah.

On the heels of this alarming experience, Bekah happily stated both kids are OK. "It was really scary. Luckily, both were fine. I'm just still shaken up," she said. "It's been a pretty bad day." Since the incident was an accident, hopefully Bekah's inbox wasn't flooded with too many hateful comments. Earlier this year, she was dragged on social media for advertising a Hawaiian vacation as part of an Instagram promotion. Followers informed her that native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders are more likely to die from COVID-19 due to healthcare disparities. They felt her promoting travel to the area during a pandemic was in poor taste. Bekah immediately issued an apology, explaining how she was "very ignorant of Hawaiian history."

Though Bekah is known for being outspoken, especially in regard to The Bachelor blogger Reality Steve's inappropriate actions toward women of the franchise, she admits when she's wrong and changes her ways accordingly. The next time Bekah takes her kids on a beach trip, it's safe to say she'll triple-check where her keys and phone are before closing the car door. Seeing a child in visible danger and distress is something no mother ever wants to witness. Luckily, everyone came out of the situation unscathed.
