Lauren Burnham, Arie Luyendyk Jr.'s wife from season 22 of The Bachelor, was hospitalized with post-partum complications after giving birth to twins last month, and now Arie has shared an update on how she's doing. Headed into the weekend, Lauren was being treated for a worsening case of antibiotic-resistance mastitis, a painful inflammation of the breast tissue. Since giving birth to the twins, the Luyendyks have faced medical challenges.

Lauren and Arie's baby daughter, Senna, couldn’t accompany her twin brother home after their birth. Respiratory issues kept her in the NICU for a week because she needed oxygen. Last month in a video, Arie addressed Senna’s medical issue. “She’s having some trouble with her breathing. She’s not on oxygen. She’s perfectly health. Her development’s just a little bit behind, so she gets really relaxed. Her heart rate slows down because of the breathing slowing and that is concerning.

Arie took to his Instagram Stories to address Lauren’s medical issue, as reported by E! News. In the post, Arie wrote, “Not good, mastitis is getting worse even on antibiotics. Hate this for her.” Since Lauren’s hospitalization, The Bachelor star Arie is stepping up his care-taker game and mused that the infants keep him busy. He said, I was up all weekend with the babies. Survival over her haha." Though Lauren received antibiotics through an IV drip during her overnight hospitalization and her condition initially was not improving, she is reportedly on the mend. While hospitalized, Lauren also received scans to identify any potential abscesses.

In June, the happy family was seemingly the picture of health and joy. In Arie’s Instagram Story, he gushed, “@luyendyktwins are here! Momma and babies doing great and everything went smoothly. Spending time cherishing these moments, thank you all for the support. Flashback less than a year, and the happy family was not so happy. In May 2020, Lauren miscarried their second child. The joy and angst of their life together thus far is not lost on The Bachelor's Arie. He said, “It’s funny if you think of where we were at a year ago, finally figuring out how to be new parents. Now a year later we have it all figured out (seemingly) but at the same time have no idea what’s coming haha. I love that we always tackle things head on and come out stronger for it, I can’t wait for what this next year holds for us. I’m so grateful we found each other and even more grateful to share in this incredible life we are creating together." By November, Arie was self-isolating from his family, due to testing positive for COVID-19.

Prior to the couple’s medical challenges, Bachelor Nation fans probably thought his poor handling of the break-up drama with his first fiancée, Becca Kufrin, from season 22 of The Bachelor demonstrated his immaturity as he lumbered toward middle age. But perhaps it is the real life-changing dilemmas of parenthood and shouldering the responsibilities of a family that are pushing The Bachelor star into full-fledged adulthood. Now that Lauren seems to be doing better, hopefully the couple provides fans with more good news in the coming days.
