Netflix's 2017 horror/comedy hit The Babysitter is set to receive a sequel, and here's everything we know about The Babysitter 2 so far. In the current entertainment landscape, Netflix's latest original movie is often seen by many more people than the number that head to their local theater to take in the latest blockbuster, even when said theater isn't closed as a result of Coronavirus. The ease of access and relative cheapness of Netflix enables many consumers to treat the service as their own personal blockbuster movie provider, making an event of watching each Netflix original film from the comfort of their home theater.

The Babysitter was no exception to that trend. Directed by McG, The Babysitter wasn't a cultural phenomenon on the level of Bird Box or The Irishman, but it still attracted quite a few viewers, partially thanks to glowing reviews from critics. What's kind of funny about that is the fact that The Babysitter sat on a shelf at New Line Cinema for several years prior to Netflix rescuing it, and granting the film a streaming home.

Starring recognizable faces like Samara Weaving, Bella Thorne, and Robbie Amell, The Babysitter worked as both an effective horror piece and a sleek, clever send-up of the genre's many tropes. Not everyone liked it of course, but enough embraced The Babysitter to warrant Netflix greenlighting an upcoming sequel. The Babysitter 2 is on the way, and here's all the info we have on it as of now.

The Babysitter 2 Release Date

Samara Weaving in The Babysitter

The Babysitter 2 has yet to be assigned a specific release date by Netflix, but considering that the film shot last fall, a release by the fall of 2020 seems likely, assuming post-production was completed prior to the Coronavirus outbreak. The first Babysitter movie hit Netflix on October 13, 2017, so a similar pre-Halloween release for The Babysitter 2 on the streaming service would make perfect sense.

The Babysitter 2 Cast

Bella Thorne, Robbie Amell, Samara Weaving, Hana Mae Lee, Andrew Bachelor and Judah Lewis in a basement in The Babysitter

Almost the entire main cast of The Babysitter is confirmed to return for The Babysitter 2, which is actually quite surprising, since many of their characters didn't survive the first film. Judah Lewis is coming back as teenage protagonist Cole, while Emily Alyn Lind is back as Cole's potential girlfriend Melanie, and Ken Marino and Leslie Bibb return as Cole's parents. Reprising dead characters somehow are Bella Thorne, Robbie Amell, Hana Mae Lee and Andrew Bachelor. Also returning is director McG, working from a script written by Dan Lagana. The only major person not set to return for The Babysitter 2 is the titular babysitter, played by Samara Weaving.

The Babysitter 2 is set two years after the original, with Cole trying to move beyond his traumatic near-death at the hands of babysitter Bee's Satanic cult, all the while also trying to survive the hell that is high school. That is until his thought to be dead enemies somehow return to target him all over again. It's a pretty standard setup for a sequel, but The Babysitter didn't exactly have the most original concept either, it was all about the execution. Hopefully Bee returns in some way though, as she stole the show last time.
