Baby Yoda fights Emperor Palpatine in a brilliant new Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith fan edit. After months of anticipation, The Mandalorian finally hit Disney+ earlier this month, and fans everywhere immediately fell in love with the show’s breakout character, a tiny alien child unofficially christened “Baby Yoda” who made a surprise first appearance in the kickoff episode (a “twist” that was immediately spoiled by Twitter).

Suffice it to say, after four Mandalorian episodes Baby Yoda mania has now taken over the whole world (though official Baby Yoda merchandise sadly remains in short supply). So irresistible is the charm of the tiny yet wise and surprisingly powerful creature that even Mandalorian star and legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog couldn’t help but fall in love, and reportedly called showrunner Jon Favreau a “coward” when he learned Favreau wanted to replace the “heartbreaking” puppet Baby Yoda with a CGI version. Indeed, much of Baby Yoda’s charm results from his being a puppet, further proof that CGI isn’t always the best way to go when it comes to realizing alien creatures.

Now, thanks to YouTuber MaxeBaumannFilms2013, Baby Yoda fans can enjoy even more of their favorite adorable (yet mysterious) puppet character, and this time he gets to really show off his Force powers (which of course were only briefly glimpsed on The Mandalorian) as he takes on Emperor Palpatine aka Darth Sidious in an edited scene from Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith. See the video in the space below:

Of course, in the original Revenge of the Sith scene, it’s the real Yoda taking on Sidious and ultimately losing to the powerful Sith Lord, a defeat that sends Yoda into exile on Dagobah. In the fan edit, it seems Baby Yoda is about to meet an even worse fate than his namesake as he gets knocked unconscious by Sidious, who looks ready to finish him off with Force lightning. That’s when, in a very satisfying twist, The Mandalorian himself shows up to disintegrate Sidious and save his infant friend.

All in all, the new Baby Yoda edit of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith may be ridiculous, but it is definitely also very adorable – as is everything involving Baby Yoda. It of course remains to be seen what will happen with the child on The Mandalorian, but at least going by a recent spoiler dropped by (of all people) Rian Johnson, it seems the character will still be around in season two of the show. Thanks to Favreau, Disney+ and company, it seems fans have a lot more Baby Yoda to look forward to, and of course there will eventually be plenty of merchandise to buy, since it wouldn’t be Star Wars without merchandise.
