The Child, also known as Baby Yoda, breakout star of The Mandalorian and beacon of light in a dark and dreary world, is now helping fight fires in the Western U.S. The fires started back in August, when a series of freak lightning storms set literally dozens of blazes across the Pacific Northwest, and powerful winds combined with the path of the storms to spread them exponentially across the West, especially in Oregon, Washington, and California.

Baby Yoda, meanwhile, has spread in a much less dangerous but no less rapid manner since his introduction in the first season of The Mandalorian. Infecting the minds of everyone with their sheer cuteness, Baby Yoda has become a social media darling the likes of which Baby Groot and the ill-advised abomination known as Baby Nut could only dream of. Now, Baby Yoda's power of cuteness is doing what it can to help out the effort to combat wildfires in the Pacific Northwest.

In mid-September, a team of firefighters in Oregon were sent a Baby Yoda toy as a thank you from a little boy named Carver, complete with a handwritten note. Obviously touched, they decided to take the toy with them, much like Mando, everywhere they went. A Facebook page dedicated to the ongoing adventures of Baby Yoda the part-time firefighter has since gone up, and the toy is now being sent around to other teams across the country for moral support and social awareness.

Oregon firefighters with Baby Yoda

In a word, this is wholesome. The thread of ongoing support this story has built as Baby Yoda the firefighter is being sent from team to team is heartwarming. He's been all along the coast, and is currently en route to Colorado to tackle their partially forgotten fires. While the response has been exclusively positive in general, many of the replies are actually about the toy itself, which people really seem to like. Baby Yoda will be featured in yet another line of The Mandalorian merchandise coming out soon, and hopefully more people will be inclined to send out their support to firefighters, whether it be in mascot form or really anything that might keep their spirits up. Star Wars fans have certainly rallied to support important causes in the past, and this latest bit of goodwill is no different.

In the wake of the release of The Mandalorian season 2 poster that features Baby Yoda being carried in a satchel, there are sure to be only more photos of the show's most popular star in the days leading to its October 30 premiere. In the meantime, though, The Mandalorian can certainly benefit from this latest publicity, especially when it features Baby Yoda doing his part to lift the spirits of firefighters putting it all on the line to protect others.
