A new Japanese TV spot for the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog movie features the small blue creature as an even smaller baby. Scheduled to arrive in February 2020 and based on the long-running Sega video game franchise of the same name, Sonic the Hedgehog stars James Marsden, Jim Carrey, and Tika Sumpter alongside the voice of Ben Schwartz as the titular blue hedgehog.

Although the initial posters and trailers for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie were received poorly by fans, a subsequent character redesign seems to have turned people's opinions of the upcoming film around. By listening to what Sonic fans have been saying they would like to see depicted on screen, the film's creators are likely hoping that their dedication to the more traditional design of the character will bring in both new viewers and others who initially wrote off the film for being too far away from what they think the character should be.

Now, a new TV spot released in Japan and shared by Sonic the Hedgehog's official Twitter shows fans an even smaller, cuter version of Sega's long-running (pun intended) mascot. In one scene, visible in the embedded video below, Sonic appears as a minuscule, flower-holding version of himself, sporting a grin which indicates he is trying to apologize for something he did wrong.

Despite the news of the VFX studio which developed The Lion King and Sonic the Hedgehog shutting down, fans have begun feeling tentatively excited about the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie. With an estimated extra five million dollars being added due to redesign costs on top of the film's already ninety-million dollar budget, the film's distributor, Paramount Pictures, is surely hoping their adherence to fan expectations will deliver at the box offices.

It's impossible to tell whether or not the addition of a Baby Sonic character has always been planned for the film, or whether it's inclusion is another last-minute change in order to cash in on the current love and praise over another small furry creature, The Mandalorian's Baby Yoda. Although Sonic the Hedgehog will not be in theaters for a few more months, the internet will surely spend that time speculating whether the tiny version of the blue speedster is cuter than the tiny version of the green Jedi master. If Baby Yoda ever holds up a flower up in the same way as tiny Sonic does here, everyone may lose their collective minds.
