Babble Royale combines the best parts of turn-based word games like Scrabble with real-time aspects of battle royale games where players fall from the sky and land somewhere to collect items and defeat other players. The main strategy is using the letters given to players to form words and doing it quickly because the battlefield is constantly shrinking and enemy players are coming.

Just as in other battle royales like Fortnight, picking a landing spot at the beginning of the game is incredibly important. It can help to ensure survival or immediate defeat. On Steam, there are two achievements related to the landing. “Drop Dead” is given to players who die on their starting letter. The inverse of this is “Death From Above,” in which players kill another with their first word.

This happens with players who start out very close to one another in Babble Royale. Generally, players probably want to start far away from others to give them time to build up items and unlock inventory slots. If players start close, one is going to kill the other unless they both agree to ignore each other for the time being, but there's no way to communicate that unless players get lucky with tiles and can spell out "friend" or something similar. That can also be risky though since players can't make games with friends yet either.

Choosing A Landing Spot in Babble Royale

Babble Royale Title

A good place for newer players to start in Babble Royale is somewhere in the top left, or closer to the center. When the battlefield starts shrinking, players will be pushed towards the center, so players who start in that area will have time to build up, and won’t have far to move generally. If they start in the top left, it is easier to move to wherever the safe zone is. Still, players should be careful because nowhere is completely safe. There will likely be others who have the same idea of landing nearby.

Players can also land on items to pick them up. Landing on a bomb is probably a preferred option because bombs can clear away other nearby tiles, giving players much need space to create new words. At the beginning of a round, players only have one inventory slot for items. They can unlock more slots later as they earn more money by leveling up, but in the beginning, gathering items isn’t as important.

Starting in the bottom right corner might be the most difficult position in Babble Royale. Since words read from left to right or from top to bottom, players are always going to have to do more work to move to the center of the board. Then again, for skilled players who don’t want to deal with others, this might be a great place to start. If players really aren't interested in the PvP aspects of Babble Royale, there are other word games like the viral Wordle which might be more their speed.

Still, not many players would dare to start in the bottom right, so players who drop here won’t have to contend with many enemies until later in the game. Besides, there are other advantages to starting in the bottom right. It does take a while for the zone to shrink, and even if players are caught outside, it takes time for their health to degrade. Their life can be extended by health items too. This might be a place to go if players are after the Steam “Pacifist” achievement, which players can get if they survive a game with zero kills.
