Aztech Forgotten Gods, a video game inspired by ancient Mexican mythology and created by Lienzo Gaming Studio, will be adapted into a live-action feature film. The fledgling game hasn't even been released to the public yet but has a rollout planned for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC later this year.
Lienzo Gaming Studio has teamed up with Impossible Dream Entertainment to produce a movie based on Aztech Forgotten Gods according to a press announcement. The production company suggested the collaboration at the early stages of the game's development with the goal of a possible future franchise including spinoffs. Lienzo and Carlos Yates will serve as executive producers alongside Yvette Yates Redick and Shaun Redick (BlacKkKlansman, Get Out) producing for Impossible Dream. Yvette Yates Redick explains that Aztech has been an exciting project to work on because of her Latina heritage, saying she is "proud to be collaborating with Lienzo, and bringing to light the legends and rich history of Mexico with Aztech." Shaun Redick says the game's mythological backstory creates many possibilities for film storytelling:
With Aztech, it’s fun to envision what world building can be achieved through the many multi-dimensional characters, the mythology and vast cultural storylines.
The rich combination of ancient mythology, history, and fantasy embedded in the game is a solid foundation for world-building that holds a lot of potential for creating a complex universe. Impossible Dream's producers were smart to snatch up Aztech at its early stages, as they may have a successful future franchise on their hands. The game also takes a revisionist approach to the history of European presence in Aztec society that both serves as a reminder of the brutality while making way for better stories to be told.

Aztech Forgotten Gods is the cyber-stone action-adventure following Achtli, a young woman who battles the colossal Forgotten Gods. To uncover the truth behind her far-future Mesoamerican metropolis, she'll have to turn the Gods' power against them, as she soars through the city with power and grace using an ancient artifact, remnant of a time long forgotten.
