Stumbling through high school from one awkward moment to the next is a right of passage. That's what makes MTV's coming-of-age series, Awkward, so relatable.

Whether it's having to wear a giant L-shaped cast, someone swiping your "v card," or dealing with intrusive parents, high school is filled with awkward and uncomfortable moments. Especially for Awkard's main protagonist, Jenna Hamilton played by Ashely Rickards.

With a multitude of characters adding to the realness of this show, some of them are bound to be more likable than others. Here are the most notable Awkward characters in season 1 ranked by least likable to most.

Sadie Saxton

Sadie is the popular cheerleader that desperately wants to fit in but chooses to hide her insecurities with sarcasm and hate towards everyone around her. When Sadie's not making Jenna's life harder than it already is, she's trying to get Matty's attention or battling with her mom about her weight, which is the only time fans feel some empathy for her.

While Sadie's cliche character is portrayed as the typical mean, popular girl, her cruel jokes, snide comments, and obnoxious catchphrase easily make her the least likable on this list.

Ally

Ally only made it into one episode of season 1 but she made a lasting impression on both the characters and the audience. Ally is Lacey's longest friend and has been around since long before Jenna was a baby. With her crude dialog and disturbing habit of calling Jenna an unsavory name, she's an interesting character that loves to shake things up.

Ally also plays a role in one of the biggest fights Jenna and Tamara have. Throwing a rager, getting an underage Jenna drunk, and offering her a pill to help calm her nerves. She's not the least likable character but she easily slides into spot number two.

Lissa

While not nearly as bad as Sadie, she's still her right-hand woman and is often whiny and needy especially when it comes to her boyfriend, Jake. She does attempt to right her wrongs on many occasions but she still makes more choices especially when Sadie is around.

While Lissa does have funny scenes that adds to her likability and makes her a more relatable character, her abundant insecurities come across as very annoying, overshadowing any funny elements to her character in this season.

Valerie Marks

Valerie doesn't always hit the mark when it comes to her students or her love life. Her intentions are pure but the impact she makes on her students is less than desirable. Lacking tact in many ways, Valerie is an interesting choice for a high school guidance counselor.

Not only that, but she inappropriately inserts herself into Jenna's life on multiple occasions. With all that being said, Valerie does add some humor to the sometimes dreadful high school experience which makes her a bit more likable than others on this list.

Lacey Hamilton

Lacey is the type of mom that embarrasses Jenna in ways that makes even fans blush. She is constantly trying to live vicariously through Jenna's high school experiences and is quick to remind Jenna of the time she lost because she was pregnant with her.

If it wasn't for writing Jenna the carefrontation letter, that was done with less care and more selfish intent, Lacey could have been a more likable character. None of this comes to light until the last episode of the first season, breaking both Jenna's and fan's hearts into pieces.

Jenna Hamilton

Jenna spends most of her time in season 1 pining over her first crush and the boy who took her virginity at summer camp, Matty McKibben. At first, he's not into showing her off or even being her boyfriend, but when she puts her foot down, he comes around and opens up. That alone adds to her likability and makes her a fun character to watch.

Of course, Jenna is not without her faults. Drunkenly making out with her best friend's crush, dating her ex-boyfriend's best friend, and not taking responsibility for her actions. She's relatable but her choices and actions don't make her the most likable character on this list.

Matty McKibben

Matty is one of those guys that needs an introduction with both his last and his first name. Not to mention he's a total heartthrob. Every girl wants to date him and every guy wants to be him. But that doesn't mean he doesn't have his faults. Which is why he's not sitting pretty at number one on this list.

Embarrassed by Jenna's "that girl" reputation, Matty's insecurities play the biggest role in his and Jenna's relationship. When he finally comes around and realizes what he's missing, it's too late. This shows him in a more empathetic light and gravitates fans to him even more.

Jake Rosati

Similar to Matty, Jake is the all American boy next door. He's the kind of guy that gets along with everyone and does his best to include those that are usually pushed to the outside, including Jenna. Although he does kiss Jenna while still dating Lissa, he does the right thing and tells Lissa and breaks up with her. But because this is high school, it's not without a whole lot of drama.

Although Jake is portrayed as a jock, he's much more forgiving and kind than the typical stereotype making him more likable than Matty but not as likable as Ming and Tamara.

Ming Huang

Ming is the glue holding the girls together. She stays out of the drama, for the most part, is focused on her extensive list of studies and trying to trick her parents into going to prom. Ming is a kind and caring friend that the audience can root for right off the bat.

Ming takes the second most likable spot only because her character development doesn't amp up until the following seasons and due to her strict parents she's not in as many scenes. Ming is still a fun character to watch. he keeps the other characters grounded and her strict parents are something fans can relate to all too well.

Tamara

Tamara knows what she wants, at least when it comes to her friends. She's the type of friend everyone needs but not everyone wants. While most of her lines are filled with Tamara-isms, her upbeat personality and all too relatable obsession with a notorious player, Ricky Schwartz, makes her a likable character to watch evolve on screen.

She's loud, she's real, and she may not always be the best friend but she adds a lot of color and vibrance to the show helping her slide into the most likable character slot.
