Anticipation for Marvel’s The Avengers has reached a scorching hot temperature, thanks to the recently-released second trailer. Suffice to say, if you’re looking for a truly tantalizing tease of Joss Whedon’s superhero movie powerhouse, it’s best you go check out (or re-watch) that trailer ASAP.
Those who are in the mood for some new behind-the-scenes footage from The Avengers, including more
fluffy set interviews where Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man) admits to geeking out on set, or Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow) talks about the literally bruising nature of her fight scenes, you should have a look at the second half of Entertainment Tonight’s set visit.
Whereas earlier Avengers trailers (like the extended Super Bowl preview) were mostly about teasing the idea of so many costumed heroes sharing the screen in flesh-and-blood form for the first time, the second theatrical promo dives deeper into the heart of the plot. We now have a better idea of why Nick Fury’s (Samuel L. Jackson) decision to bring so many larger-than-life warriors together is both a stroke of genius and a desperate attempt to combat Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and his mysterious extraterrestrial forces. As grand as the sheer visceral spectacle in the film promises to be, that aspect looks to be matched in emotional intensity by the clashes between its superhero characters, due to their differences in personality and outlook.
However, for a walk on the lighter side of things – and a better look at the tangible portions of The Avengers’ Helicarrier – check out the new ET set video below:
There’s no real need to hype The Avengers with words anymore; the early footage speaks for itself. Whedon’s film is not only poised to start Summer 2012 off with a bang, but it should also give both The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spider-Man a serious run for their money, as far as the contest to be crowned “Best Comic Book Movie of the Year” goes.
Of course while we wait to see what the box office receipts say about the success of these respective comic book films, you can weigh in on the matter by voting in our poll:
The Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Cobie Smulders, and Clark Gregg.
It will open in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D theaters around the U.S. on May 4th, 2012.
