Jeremy Renner says he would be down for a real Avengers musical. Following his Academy Award-nominated performances in The Hurt Locker and The Town in 2008 and 2010, Renner made a brief cameo appearance as the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Clint Barton in 2011's Thor and has been playing the Marvel Cinematic Universe's master archer, Hawkeye, ever since. Following his prominent roles in four team-up movies, including three Avengers flicks and Captain America: Civil War, Hawkeye is finally getting his time to shine in a solo series on Disney+.

Set two years after the events of Avengers: Endgame, Hawkeye finds Clint teaming up with his biggest fan and eventual successor, Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), to take down enemies from his past as Ronin who have reemerged in New York City and risk spoiling Clint's relaxing Christmas with his wife (Linda Cardellini) and kids. However, during the first few episodes, they do find time to attend a Captain America-inspired Broadway show called Rogers: The Musical, much to Hawkeye's annoyance.

During a recent interview with Variety, Renner was asked if he believes there could ever be a real MCU musical and if he would be interested in starring in it. The Hawkeye actor answered with a resounding yes to both questions and his co-star, Steinfeld, followed suit. Read both their responses below:

Renner: I think yes is the answer to both those questions. (Laughs) I don’t know. It really was quite a production. There’s a bit more that’s not in the show — and I’m sure they have plans for this kind of stuff. They think well ahead. Who knows what and how and way, shape or form. We spoke about the idea of an Avengers musical back on the first Avengers [movie], and we were all kind of joking about it. But yeah, [Rogers] was just oddly great and awful at the same time, and I’ve mixed feelings about it. But yes is the answer. I’m down. I’m in!

Steinfeld: Oh, I didn’t know I was part of the question! Sure!

Hawkeye and Avengers Musical

The revelation that the cast of the first Avengers movie used to joke about an MCU musical back in 2012 is surely an interesting one, as it has now materialized in the form of an in-universe stage show featuring all the Avengers portrayed by actors. Ever since Rogers: The Musical was revealed in a Hawkeye trailer, the fictional Broadway show has been of major interest to fans. While Captain America's musical is headlined by a number called "I Can Do This All Day" in reference to his famous catchphrase, Renner previously revealed that Hawkeye's hypothetical musical number would be called "Just Can't Seem to Miss."

Considering the interest that fans and several MCU stars have now shown in an Avengers-style musical, it wouldn't be the craziest idea for Marvel to pursue, which Renner assumes they already are. While a few actors like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Scarlett Johansson appear to have moved on from their MCU roles, perhaps the prospect of an Avengers-inspired musical, whether it be on the stage or the screen, might lure them back for one more romp, especially considering many of them have backgrounds in musical theater.
