Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness features an epic clash between two powerful Avengers. The Scarlet Witch proves once and for all her MCU supremacy, as she did in the comics when she unleashed her power in storylines like House of M and Avengers: Disassembled. Though Wanda possesses unrivaled power, the most powerful Avengers in Marvel Comics have found a way to contain her.

The Avengers brings together god-like strength in Thor and cosmic power in Captain Marvel. They also benefit from the leadership and experience of Captain America, a guiding light that keeps the team going through its darkest moments. Together, the Avengers represent an unstoppable force for good in the universe and a necessary defense against villains with unspeakable ambitions like Thanos.

Captain America

Captain America Explains What 'Super-Soldier' Actually Means Featured

Captain America gained peak human strength, endurance, and reflexes thanks to the Super Soldier serum he took in World War II. Though he doesn't rank amongst the strongest Avengers, he brings exceptional experience and training, especially in hand-to-hand fighting. He trained other Avengers how to fight, including Hawkeye and the Scarlet Witch.

The most powerful quality Captain America brings to the Avengers is his leadership. Time and again, he leads the team through good and bad and his example inspires even when he's not there.

Luke Cage

Luke Cage appears in Marvel Comics.

Comic book fans know Luke Cage packs a punch. He possesses superhuman strength, stamina, and agility. His skin resists virtually any injury and he's invulnerable to most conventional forms of attack, including bullets and in some cases shells. He also heals much faster than the average human being.

Cage also numbers among the best martial artists on the Avengers. He trained with Iron Fist and developed a robust skillset in a variety of disciplines that makes him exceptionally challenging for enemies.

Hulk

Hulk fights the Thing in Marvel Comics.

The Hulk achieved incredible superhuman strength and durability from exposure to gamma radiation. This radiation allows Dr. Bruce Banner to transform into a giant capable of demolishing buildings with a single punch. Little injures the Hulk, and he's taken hits from the most powerful Avengers villains that would kill some of his colleagues.

The Hulk's powers evolve in the comics and he can achieve limitless strength depending on his anger. At times, he retains his intelligence, making him even more powerful.  A powerful Hulk variant known as The Maestro represents the character perhaps at his most potent.

Wonder Man

Wonder Man lifts a giant robot in Marvel Comics.

Wonder Man wields superhuman strength on par with Thor thanks to experiments by Baron Zemo, among the Avengers' most villainous foes. Exposed to ionic radiation, Wonder Man developed super speed, stamina, and endurance. He also generates ionic energy blasts from his hands and in some cases, can transform completely into energy himself.

His condition also grants him extreme longevity. Wonder Man essentially became immortal when he gained his powers, and he appeared in the 31st century in the original Guardians of the Galaxy comics.

Thor

Hercules and Thor fight in Marvel Comics.

Thor possesses god-like strength thanks to his Asgardian physiology. His strength seemingly knows no bounds as he cracked a Celestial's skull during Walt Simonson's epic run on Thor in the 1980s. Thor also fought the Phoenix Force and literally knocked it out, a feat few beings in the Marvel Universe could accomplish.

Thanks to his mystical hammer Mjölnir, Thor possesses even more power. He controls the weather and can generate highly destructive god blasts that draw power from his own life force.

Monica Rambeau

Monica Rambeau as Captain Marvel emits a yellow energy shield in Marvel Comics.

Comic book fans know Monica Rambeau doesn't have the powers of a god, but she might as well have. Monica perceives and controls all energy on the electromagnetic spectrum, including visible light, cosmic rays, gamma rays, and X-rays. This allows her to manipulate energy in such a way she can alter her own body chemistry, as well as reality to some extent.

Monica produces devastating cosmic blasts of energy and can fly in space unassisted at speeds up to the speed of light, easily making her among the most powerful Avengers. She also brings excellent leadership skills to the team and led them for a period in the 1980s.

Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange casts the Mists of Munnopor in Marvel Comics.

Doctor Strange ranks among the most powerful magicians in the Marvel Universe, with few peers, easily making him elite on the Avengers. His role as the Sorcerer Supreme grants him the power to travel between dimensions, generate spells to negate powers, and fight unimaginable beings like Shuma-Gorath and Dormammu.

Doctor Strange also commands profound wisdom and experience, which he brings to the Avengers' most challenging situations. His ego sometimes undermines this though, making him an infrequent member of the team.

Sentry

Sentry standing among lightning in Marvel Comics.

Sentry possesses omnipotent strength and power, enough to fight a Celestial singlehandedly and then ferry him away from the Earth. Even more impressive, Sentry once fought Galactus, easily one of the most powerful cosmic beings in the Marvel Universe, to a standstill. He accomplished all this thanks to Super Soldier experiments that altered his molecular composition.

His molecules exist a moment ahead in time and as a result, he exists in different moments in time. This gives Sentry a temporal awareness approaching that of the cosmic beings he has defeated.

Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel possesses cosmic awareness, allowing her to perceive events across the universe and even beyond, in the multiverse. Her incredible powers include absorbing and manipulating energy on a cosmic scale and can do the same on a molecular level. She essentially sculpts reality as she sees fit, and the upper limits of her powers have yet to be established.

Captain Marvel battled Thanos, even armed with the Infinity Gauntlet, and also generated enough power to destroy an entire planet, easily making her one of the most powerful Avengers in the comics.

The Scarlet Witch

Scarlet Witch confronts Namor in Marvel Comics.

The Scarlet Witch perhaps ranks as not only the most powerful Avenger but the most powerful being in Marvel Comics. Her probability powers, combined with her skill in Chaos Magic, allowed her to alter reality on an unprecedented scale in House of M. She simply killed Agatha Harkness, a powerful sorceress, with little effort.

The Scarlet Witch's destructive power defeated the Phoenix Five during Avengers vs. X-Men, suggesting her power exceeded the Dark Phoenix. She also uses her power to create, recently leveraging her extraordinary skill to create a mutant afterlife.
