Writer Jeff Loveness teases more powerful Kang variants and two Avengers that could appear in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Loveness has teamed up with Marvel Studios again to pen the screenplay for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty after writing Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Loveness officially introduced Kang the Conqueror into the MCU with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania while also bringing the Council of Kangs to life in the mid-credits scene.

During an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Loveness explained how the new Kang variants are more dangerous than Kang the Conqueror. Loveness drops the name of a Kang variant that hasn't been introduced yet. He also specifically mentions two veteran Avengers, which could be hinting at their appearance in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

Screen Rant: Has writing this Kang the Conqueror and other variants in the post-credit scenes evolved your understanding of the character?

Jeff Loveness: Absolutely, and that's the challenge. That's what I'm in the process of getting into. How do you top what Jonathan did in this movie? That's a big challenge. But also, Kang is a multifaceted character, and that's the beauty of [it]. Immortus and Kang, they're very different guys. They have very different outlooks. Rama-Tut is very different, and The Centurion, and all that. Which version do you do? There's Iron Lad; there's all that stuff. At the end of the day, you don't want to overload the audience, and you don't want it to seem like you're doing Nutty Professor 2: The Clumps or something.

You don't want to have a Thanksgiving dinner scene with the Kangs, or Multiplicity or something. It's a balance of, "How do you make each character different? Why are they different? What is their outlook?" Obviously, Michael Waldron did a terrific job of setting that up in Loki with He Who Remains. I kind of took that from him and did this version of Kang. And I'm doing that to myself now, "Okay, you've had the goofy one who's been alone too long. You have the Julius Caesar version of it. [Who] beat that guy?"

That actually is a great challenge. Who was smart and ruthless enough to take out Kang the Conqueror? That makes me lean forward, because we saw how bad this guy was. We saw how rough it was to beat one of these guys, and now there's a thousand of them. Best of luck to Hawkeye! I'm sure War Machine has got it handled. There's 1,000 of them, so I think we've set a good table.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty Will Feature Next-Level Dangers

kang the conqueror using his powers in ant-man and the wasp quantumania

Immortus, Rama-Tut, and The Centurion all debuted in the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania mid-credits scene and seemed to be the catalysts for an even bigger threat now that Kang the Conqueror is gone. Loveness is setting up these Kang variants as intelligent, ruthless forces whose power is to be feared. While these Kang variants are powerful in their own right, with the Council of Kangs, they become a massive threat to anyone who would stand against them.

Loveness specifically mentions Iron Lad, who has yet to be introduced into the MCU. Iron Lad is an especially intriguing Kang variant who fights with the Young Avengers against Kang in an attempt to thwart his destiny. The MCU seems to be setting up the Young Avengers team, with Cassie Lang, Kate Bishop, and America Chavez all already introduced as heroes. Perhaps Avengers: The Kang Dynasty could introduce Iron Lad and help kick off the long-awaited Young Avengers team.

Loveness also calls out Hawkeye and War Machine as Avengers who would have difficulty fighting Kang. It's interesting that he uses these two veteran heroes as examples. It could be because these two don't have powers, but he doesn't mention Ant-Man, who has a personal stake in this fight, or Captain America who is the veteran Avengers most likely to lead the charge against Kang. They aren't the most dangerous opponents to challenge, and with Kang bragging about killing Avengers, it would make more sense to bring up Hulk, Doctor Strange, or Thor as established Avengers to fight Kang to prove how much more powerful he is. Given the fact that Loveness specifically brought War Machine and Hawkeye up, it could be a sign that these two veteran heroes may be an important part of the team in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
