It appears Erik Selvig and Darcy Lewis can be counted among Avengers: Infinity War's survivors. After collecting all six of the Infinity Stones, Thanos (Josh Brolin) snapped his fingers and eliminated half of the universe's population. Several major characters were lost, but it looks like some Thor supporting characters made it out alive.
The closing moments of Infinity War forced audiences to watch most of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, and more vanish right before their eyes. Only a handful of superheroes were shown as confirmed survivors of the snap, but the fully populated universe left several other MCU characters' fates unclear. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo previously confirmed whether or not the likes of Lady Sif or Betty Ross made it out alive, but they barely scratched the surface on the entire MCU roster.
Author Brandon T. Snider recently shared photos online to commemorate the launch of his new book Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War: The Cosmic Quest, Volume 2: Aftermath. The photos contain a look at the front and back covers and confirms the protagonists of the story set after Infinity War's ending, Dr. Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgård) and Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings), did indeed survive the snap.
This is the followup to Marvel's Avengers: Infinity War: The Cosmic Quest, Volume 1: Beginning that was released earlier this year. The first book told the story of Grandmaster and the Collector hanging out following the events of Thor: Ragnarok. Neither of these books are officially confirmed to be part of the MCU's canon, but Beginning was part of the "Road to Avengers: Infinity War" line that Marvel released. Going a step further, the books do act as though they are part of the canon, putting them in a potentially similar state as the recently released Thanos: Titan Consumed novel. If Snider also worked closely with Marvel Studios to make sure his book correctly depicted the MCU in a post-Infinity War world, then knowing which characters survived and were free to use makes sense.
With that in mind, this is the first piece of evidence pointing to either Selvig or Darcy surviving the snap and immediately raises questions over whether or not a return in Avengers 4 could be in store. Based on the prior novel, Grandmaster was not a factor in Infinity War and Thanos is believed to have killed the Collector - unless Benicio Del Toro is correct about his fate. Neither character really factored into Avengers: Infinity War, so Selvig and Darcy being used in this second book is far from a guarantee they'll return in Avengers 4. If they are indeed alive and well, then it won't be too surprising if Marvel Studios brings back these additional side characters in the Phase 3 capper.
