Marvel's highly anticipated movie Avengers: Infinity War has received an exclusive D23 Expo 2017 poster that highlights Josh Brolin's Thanos as he wields the Infinity Gauntlet. Marvel Studios unveiled their newest logo today that celebrates 10 years of building the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which all began with Jon Favreau's Iron Man in 2008. However, it was only at the end of Joss Whedon's The Avengers in 2012 that the studio revealed their cards and teased the inevitable showdown between Earth's mightiest heroes and the Mad Titan Thanos.
Anthony and Joe Russo's upcoming Avengers film finally sees that three-phase story arc come to a head when the Guardians of the Galaxy align themselves with the Avengers in order to protect the universe from certain annihilation at the hands of Thanos and his Black Order - who were officially unveiled at D23 Expo today, consisting of Corvus Glaive, Black Swan, Ebony Maw, Proxima Midnight, and Black Dwarf.
The studio showcased the first footage of the Russos' Avengers: Infinity War during Disney's live-action movies panel at D23 Expo today, though that footage won't be shown to the public until later this year (aside from potentially showing off the same footage at San Diego Comic-Con next weekend), arriving ahead of Taiki Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok. Although fans are anxiously awaiting the movie's first trailer, a new D23 exclusive poster (drawn by concept artist Ryan Meinerding) has emerged online showing off Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet. Interestingly, just like the statue that's being displayed on the expo's show floor, the poster above features the supervillain without his helmet. It's curious because the past three times that audiences have seen Thanos on-screen - in the post-credits scenes for both The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, as well as in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy - he's worn his helmet along with his full armor set. It appears that, at least in Infinity War, Thanos won't start out with his iconic armor; perhaps that's something the Russos are saving for their currently untitled Avengers 4.
Regardless of his armor, the biggest highlight from the poster is the Mad Titan wielding the fully-powered Infinity Gauntlet (though we still don't know which of the shared universe's two Gauntlets is the real one). Of course, in order to harness the primordial power the Gauntlet endows its wearer with, Thanos needs to acquire all six Infinity Stones, and there's only one left that hasn't been accounted for: the Soul Stone. Chris Hemsworth recently said that the final stone's location will be revealed soon, possibly in his upcoming film. Although fans shouldn't expect any official teaser to debut online soon, there's still quite a bit of information coming out of D23, so stay tuned for more Infinity War news.
